Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to child care staff on shift.
  • Meet with staff biweekly to provide feedback on performance.
  • Identify safety issues and take corrective action as needed.
  • Supervise adherence to treatment, supervision, and crisis plans.
  • Chair daily pre-shift meetings and coordinate daily plan.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and biweekly supervision.
  • Ensure all written documentation complies with policy.
  • Ensure medication is passed as outlined by policy.
  • Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served on schedule.
  • Complete required trainings and maintain labor standards.
  • Coordinate intakes/referrals in transitional services as needed.

$1000 sign on bonusBasic Function/Overall Responsibilities: The Child Care Shift Supervisor has overall shift responsibility for the provision of a safe, therapeutic, and culturally sensitive environment for children in residential care. This position requires critical thinking skills, advanced child care skills and the ability to assess stressful situations and respond appropriately.Principal Assigned Responsibilities:Provide leadership and guidance to child care staff, meet with staff on shift individually biweekly to provide feedback on job performance.Identify issues or concerns related to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment and taken corrective action, and bring to the attention of Program Supervisors.3. Provide assistance/guidance to other child care staff relative to the effective management of programs arising in the life space; participate in the supervision of child care staff.Ensure that child care workers adhere to program routine and follow individual treatment plans, supervision plans, and crisis intervention plans during assigned shift.Ensure supervision of children in accordance with individual enhanced supervision plans, program protocol and agency policies.Participate in professional development trainings.Chair daily pre-shift meetings which sets the plan for the day as relative to recreation, visitation, transportation, medication management, etc.Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and biweekly supervision, with input on meeting agendas.Ensure the completion of all written documentation as defined by program and agency policy and procedure.Ensure that all program and agency policies and procedures are followed.11. Ensure medication is passed as outlined in agency policy.Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served as scheduled.Successfully complete all required agency trainings as defined by program and agency policy.Ensure compliance with labor standards as related to staff breaks, and management of additional hours during shift.In transitional services program coordinate intakes/referrals into program in accordance with program policy and procedure.Other related tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor.Education and Experience Requirements:l. Minimum high school or equivalency diploma required; some higher education preferred.2. Experience working with juvenile justice involved youth highly desirable; sufficient maturity to work with and relate to youth required.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:1. Uses knowledge of developmental milestones, assists youth in participating at their individual level of interest and ability.12. Uses observation as a way to \"get to know\" youth —their interests and developmental levels.13. Interacts with youth during meal and snack times, promoting appropriate social behavior.14. Applies knowledge of youth development to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and environments.15. Adapts activities and environments to meet the special needs and situations of individual youth.16. Identifies developmentally appropriate behavior and reasonable expectations for youth’s behavior.17. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times.18. Demonstrate ability to provide leadership for staff.19. Demonstrate ability to critically think and respond appropriately to stressful situations.20. Strong verbal and written communication skills.21. Valid New York State Driver License.
