Job summary

New-Indy Containerboard LLC is seeking a Supervisor to direct Mill Technicians in a papermaking environment at our Hartford City facility. You will coach teams to meet safety, production, and quality targets while overseeing onboarding, training, and performance management.

You will partner with the Paper Machine Superintendent and maintenance teams to analyze issues, plan shutdowns, and drive root-cause improvements. A strong leader with problem-solving skills is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience as a Setup Foreman or other management roles preferred.
• Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
• Willingness to learn and problem-solve, with training within first year.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise Mill Technicians and coach toward safety, production, quality, and uptime goals.
• Oversee new employee onboarding, training, and performance management.
• Collaborate with maintenance to perform RCFA for breaks and failures.
• Plan and direct shutdowns with Paper Machine Superintendent; ensure basic care rounds are completed.
• Set performance expectations and help employees correct deficiencies; communicate with HR on issues.
• Coordinate with management to gather data for continuous improvement plans.
• Identify process improvements and convey needs to managers.
• Adhere to policies and handle any issues or complaints as they arise.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 15 Non-Exempt Mill Technicians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Purpose:

A person who is experienced in the process of papermaking. The person will be able to direct mill technicians and oversee the performance of the production process.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage Mill Technicians serving as a coach in meeting goals for safety, production, quality, and on-grade up-time.


• Responsible for new employee orientation & training, housekeeping, daily “toolbox talks”, AND employee performance management.


• Works with employees and sub-contractor maintenance personnel to perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for paper breaks and mechanical failures.


• Assesses individual training needs and plans training.


• Sets employee performance expectations and evaluates performance. Works with the employee to correct any performance deficiencies.


• Works with Paper Machine Superintendent to plan and execute mill maintenance shutdowns.


• Maintains equipment through assuring “basic care rounds” are completed and operator maintenance is performed as required.


• Assists employees in gathering and analyzing data used in continuous improvements plans.


• Champions employees to continually look for ways of improving processes and communicates needs with managers.


• Explains and consistently enforces policies and procedures.


• Works with employees to resolve issues or complaints; communicates employee concerns with the Paper Machine Superintendent and Human Resources Manager.


• Perform other duties as assigned.
