Job summary

Chow Hound in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Shift Supervisor to oversee animal care, assist customers, and guide team members during shifts. This role is hands-on and vital to daily store operations.

You will manage opening/closing, handle basic transactions at the register, and help merchandising while promoting advancement opportunities within Chow Hound.

Qualifications

• Must be able to supervise a shift and provide direction to team members.
• Strong customer service and product knowledge.
• Experience operating a cash register and handling payments.

Responsibilities

• Ensure animal care is up to Chow Hound standards (feeding, water, clean enclosures, safety).
• Provide exceptional customer service and knowledge of store products, services, and promotions.
• Operate cash register accurately (sales, payments, card transactions, giving change).
• Demonstrate merchandising skills; perform store resets, endcaps, stock moves, perishables rotation, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Provide direction to team during shifts.
• Communicate important information to Store Manager/Assistant Manager.
• Open/close the store.

About Your Career

• Ensures that all animals in our care are being taken care of properly up to including being fed, watered, clean enclosures, and staying in compliance with our company standards.
• Provides exceptional customer service to all customers in the store up to and including demonstrating knowledge of store products, services, and promotions.
• Knows how to efficiently operate the cash register, which involves accurately entering sales information, receiving product payments, processing credit card transactions, or making correct changes.
• Demonstrates good merchandising skills to make the store appear neat and well-presentable. Helps with store resets, building and changing endcaps, putting stock from trucks or the warehouse onto the sales floor shelves, rotating perishable goods, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Provide direction to the team during their shift.
• Communicate clearly and accurately important information/feedback to the Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager.
• Open/close store.
