Umami Riot Experience in Boston is seeking a hands-on Shift Manager to lead on the line, supervise a fast-paced team, and ensure top food quality and service pace. You’ll act as the point person when the Area Manager is away, balancing line duties with leadership responsibilities.
You should have 2+ years in a high-volume kitchen, with supervisory experience preferred. ServSafe and allergen certifications or the ability to obtain them within 30 days are highly valued.
Umami Riot was born from a simple idea: pair joyful hospitality with uncompromising craftsmanship. Founded by Chef Tim Cushman and sake expert Nancy Cushman, our restaurants celebrate bold flavor, precision, and a deep respect for Japanese foodways – translated through a distinctly Boston lens. At Umami Riot, we’re not here to follow the rules of hospitality, we’re here to rewrite them – with heart, craft and fearless creativity.
We’re looking for a Shift Manager who can work the line, lead by example, and keep the team moving at gogo ya and Ms. Clucks.
You’ll cook alongside the team while keeping an eye on the bigger picture: food quality, service pace, kitchen safety, and the people making it happen. When the Area Manager is away, you’re the point person on the floor.
This is a high-energy kitchen where the pace is constant and teamwork keeps service moving.
Yes—this is a hands-on role. You’ll be on your feet for extended shifts, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., and working around hot equipment, sharp tools, and varying temperatures. A disciplined commitment to sanitation, safety, and cleanliness is part of the craft here. We’re committed to providing reasonable accommodations to support individuals in performing the essential functions of the role.
Pay Range: $22 - $25 per hour based on experience
