Job summary

Caribou Coffee in Johnston, IA is seeking a Shift Leader to guide the coffeehouse during your shift in partnership with the General Manager. You will ensure brand standards, product quality, cleanliness, and guest connections while keeping the team energized and on task.

You will train, coach, and develop Team Members, manage tasks, handle cash and safety procedures, and communicate clearly on floor. The role emphasizes ownership, humility, and customer connection to deliver outstanding

Qualifications

• 6+ months in a leadership role or trained and approved to take Shift Leader responsibilities
• Flexible availability: able to work different days/times/shifts as business needs change
• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Owns the current shift and ensures a smooth hand-off to the next shift
• Ensures SOPs, cash handling, and store safety and security are followed
• Coaches and trains the team on role responsibilities, product knowledge, promotions, and recipe prep

Position Overview

The Shift Leader is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the coffeehouse in partnership with the General Manager or the Assistant General Manager. The Shift Leader makes sure the team has a clear understanding of brand standards, expectations, products, cleanliness, new directives, and Guest connections during the shift.

Core Responsibilities

• Demonstrates mastery of every Team Member responsibility with confidence, enthusiasm, and excellence


• Leads shifts with an unwavering commitment to Make Fun Happen - keeping the team engaged, the energy up, and the shift on track


• Optimizes product sales while effectively managing waste and maintaining an inviting, well- executed coffeehouse environment.


• Knows the day's deployment and the roles tied to it, communicating clearly on the floor to keep the shift moving


• Reads the needs of the team, anticipates the shift's competing priorities, and delegates objectives and tasks accordingly


• Takes ownership of the current shift and sets up a smooth hand-off for the shift that follows


• Ensures the team executes standard operating procedures and upholds Caribou's standards for quality, cash handling, and store safety and security


• Coaches and trains the team in the moment - on role responsibilities, product knowledge, promotions, and recipe prep, including adjustments for a guest's request


• Performs administrative tasks timely with integrity and follow-through, including bank deposits, inventory, and product orders


• Actively develops Team Members, providing coaching and feedback in the moment

• Owns the decision-making that comes with being Manager on Duty, staying resilient and calm under pressure

Skills and Qualifications

Required

• At least 6 months of experience in a leadership role , or properly trained and approved to take on Shift Leader responsibilities


• To support the needs of the business and the team, Shift Leaders are expected to maintain flexible availability. While hiring may be based on current scheduling needs, Shift Leaders may be required to work different days, times, or shifts as business and operational needs change.


• Must be at least 18 years of age
