Description
Position Summary: Shift Leaders provide direct supervision and ensure all crew members work efficiently and effectively during their shift. They do not have a minimum hour requirement.
Primary Responsibilities
The following represents the majority of duties performed but is not exhaustive:
- Adhere to restaurant performance standards, ensuring crew members are actively working, regulating workflow, and reassigning crew as needed. Support labor goals by adjusting crew levels based on business volume.
- Resolve guest concerns in person or via phone, using good judgment for customer credits and documenting decisions for audits.
- Meet guest needs by ensuring adequate prep, accurate delivery times, proper order verification, timely table cleaning, and courteous guest interactions.
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards, including glove use, restroom cleanliness, surface disinfection, proper food storage, and floor safety.
- Ensure crew compliance with uniform and safety guidelines, including non-slip footwear.
- Perform shift tasks such as cash handling, deposits, end-of-shift activities, and documenting unusual events.
- Ensure safety and security of crew, guests, products, and cash, including locking doors, setting alarms, and restricting after-hours access.
- Handle administrative duties like scheduling, ordering, inventory, and reporting.
- Assist in training and developing crew members.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication, leadership, and guest relations skills.
- Teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Knowledge of operational procedures and health and safety regulations.
- Comfort with workplace technology and POS systems.
- Basic math skills and crew management capabilities.
Experience/Education & Certification
- Must pass the Mazzio’s Comp 1 Test before managing a shift.
- May require Food Handler’s permit, Sanitation Certification, or other permits/licenses as per local laws.
- Preferred valid driver’s license with appropriate insurance and a clean driving record.
Physical Demands
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with frequent lifting and carrying. Work mainly from a standing position, with long shifts and split shifts.
- Reaching, climbing, stooping, handling, and sensory tasks like tasting are required. Punctuality and reliability are essential.
Working Conditions
- Primarily indoor environment, with exposure to heat, water, and liquids. Frequent hand washing and operation of kitchen equipment are required.
Tools and Equipment
- Includes adding machines, cash registers, computers, ovens, and other standard kitchen and office tools.
