Job summary

Church at the Park in Monmouth, OR is seeking a Shelter Support role to assist daily operations at our shelter sites. You will help with reception, meal service, sanitation, and general site duties, contributing to a safe and welcoming environment.

The position emphasizes trauma-informed care, collaboration with staff, and strong organizational skills to serve participants experiencing homelessness and related challenges. Schedule highlights include weekend shifts and 8:00 am–4:30 pm hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Two years of social services experience; or equivalent education/experience.
• Commitment to trauma informed care and harm reduction approaches.
• Demonstrated mediation experience with escalated behavior.
• Ability to collaborate with management, case managers, peers and partners on site.
• Experience with homelessness or behavioral health/substance use contexts preferred but not required.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple participant needs.

Responsibilities

• Reception: check participants, partners and volunteers in/out; manage site phone; sort mail; assist with donations; connect guests to local resources; maintain welcoming reception area.
• Hospitality: check in food donations; audit expiration dates; log refrigerator temps; serve meals; sanitize areas.
• Sanitation: sign in participants for showers; assist with shower/restroom sanitation; handle participant laundry.
• Site inventory: weekly audits; log inventory; organize storage areas.
• Wellness Checks: weekly checks; record outcomes; communicate with participants.
• Deep Cleans: monthly deep cleans; record outcomes in tracking sheets.
• Site donation & shopping: coordinate shopping days; organize inventory; sort donations.
• Site cleanliness & safety: walk-throughs; manage debris and safety info; document pass downs.

Wage: $22.50 DOE + DOQ

Shift: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Saturday - Wednesday

Position Summary:

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of social services experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred but not required.
• Committed to trauma informed care and harm reduction approaches.
• Demonstrated experience in mediation between persons exhibiting escalated behavior.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with management, case managers, peer support and community partners on site.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, chronic illness, behavioral health challenges, or substance use disorders, preferred but not required.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple participants’ needs effectively.

Essential Job Duties Include (But Not Limited To)

• Reception: Checks participants, community partners, and volunteers in and out of the site, manages the site phone, sorts and distributes participant mail, receives, puts away and longs donations, monitors door and parking lot activity, assists in connecting guests and participants with local resources, as well as maintains a clean inviting reception area.
• Hospitality: Checks in food donations and conducts regular audits for food expiration dates, records refrigerator temperature in the log, receives and serves meals, sanitizes countertops, appliances, and eating areas.
• Sanitation: Signs in participants to available showers, supports with the sanitation of showers and restrooms, and runs participant laundry.
• Site inventory: Audits site inventory on a weekly basis, logs received inventory and organizes all inventory holding locations.
• Wellness Checks: Conducts wellness checks on a weekly basis, and records outcomes for each, using the tracking sheet, while also providing communication to participants.
• Deep Cleans: Conducts deep cleans monthly with each participant in and the restoration team. Records outcomes of each deep clean using the tracking sheet.
• Site donation and shopping: Supports assigned shopping days and times, ensuring cleanliness, organizing, and tracking shopping pod inventory. It also includes sorting through received donations.
• Site cleanliness and safety: Conducts regular site walk-throughs, cleans up debris on or around site premises, records safety related information (this can encompass pass downs, emails, incident reports and mandated reporting) prior to the end of shift.

$22.50 - $22.50 an hour

Supervision & Guidance

• This position operates under general supervision and will receive regular direction, support, and performance feedback from leadership.
• The role requires initiative, reliability, and regular communication with supervisors regarding project progress, challenges, and development needs.

Physical Requirements

• This position requires walking outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be able to go up and down stairs.
• Must be able to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds or less.

Work Environment

• Close quarters with vulnerable people, including individuals in C@P shelters and occasionally, with individuals without stable living situations who may be struggling with mental health and substance use concerns.
• Indoor/Outdoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands, and occasional unpredictable behavior.
