Job summary

Banfield Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Hospital Shift Lead to support the Practice Manager and COS in guiding a hospital team. The role blends leadership with hands-on client services and veterinary assistance to ensure a high level of pet care and client satisfaction.

The Shift Lead will help schedule staff, ensure adherence to policies, and promote our wellness programs while maintaining a productive, friendly hospital environment for pets and clients alike.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods.
  • Must work special hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Requires mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking English).
  • Comfortable in a loud, moderately high noise environment and strong smells.
  • Requires lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.

  • Assist and support hospital leadership to develop an efficient, productive team.
  • Follow Banfield protocols and focus the team to achieve priorities.
  • Supervise day-to-day reliability, quality care and client service.
  • Create an environment for quality, efficient veterinary care and staff engagement.
  • Provide exceptional client service and educate on wellness plans and hospital services.
  • Assist in scheduling to meet client needs and CE planning.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and dress guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

VETERINARY HOSPITAL SHIFT LEAD

This posting will remain open for a minimum of two weeks from the posting date. Job Summary

The Veterinary Hospital Shift Lead (“Shift Lead”) provides exceptional client and pet experiences while assisting the Practice Manager and/or Chief of Staff (COS) in guiding the team to maximize productivity and profitability of the hospital, and helps ensure effective communication with all clients, internal stakeholders, and colleagues. The Shift Lead also performs the duties of a Client Services Coordinator and Veterinary Assistant when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the hospital leadership in developing an efficient, productive team that provides the highest quality care and service to the most pets and clients.
  • Follow Banfield protocols and practices, focusing the team to achieve practice priorities while building our culture and brand.
  • Supervise the team day‑to‑day when called upon, ensuring quality medical care, exceptional client service, associate engagement, and maximum productivity.
  • Create an environment where a team can deliver quality, efficient and effective veterinary care to pets and foster associate engagement.
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional client service (lead by example), ensuring all associates do the same, including education about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services, marketing campaigns, and other related information; effectively resolve client issues.
  • Assist in effectively scheduling associates to meet client needs, proactively plan time off and CE scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with all practice policies and procedures and adherence to Banfield dress and grooming guidelines.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Special Working Conditions
    • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
    • Ability to be confident around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.).
    • Must work special hours, including weekends and evenings.
    • Requires mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking English).
    • Comfortable in a loud, moderately high noise environment and strong smells.
    • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills: standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity, and visual acuity: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
  • Education & Experience
    • High School Diploma preferred; must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of veterinary hospital experience.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $17.57 – $22.45 Hourly. The pay range listed reflects a general hiring range for the area, with the specific rate determined based on the candidate’s experience, skill level, and education, and may vary depending on location or applicable minimum wage laws.
