Job summary

Georgia-Pacific's Wauna Mill in Clatskanie, OR is seeking a Shift Area Leader to coordinate mill operations, safety, and maintenance across 24/7 shifts. You will work with operations, maintenance, and leadership to optimize machine uptime while maintaining quality and productivity targets.

You are a collaborative leader experienced in industrial environments, capable of directing hourly staff, resolving issues quickly, and ensuring safe, compliant operations as part of a rotating 4-on/4-off

Qualifications

  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lead and mentor hourly workers.
  • Strong focus on safety and compliance.
  • Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact on shift, coordinating with Shift Mill Leaders and operating area teams to ensure seamless operations
  • Direct work activities to optimize machine setup, speed, and uptime, achieving operational targets
  • Act as a lead blocker for safety issues and operational distractions, enabling Shift Mill Leaders to focus on training and advanced operational support
  • Make critical operational decisions to enhance efficiency and maintain continuous 24/7 operations, addressing issues swiftly
  • Collaborate with teams, ensuring smooth handoffs with hourly staff
  • Integrate as a new salaried leader, providing direction while maintaining business continuity
  • Handle logistical challenges to prevent disruptions and enable leaders to focus on strategic tasks
  • Lead the on-shift team responding to and reporting safety or environmental concerns as incident commander

Your Job

Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products Division is seeking a Shift Area Leader for the Wauna Mill in Clatskanie, OR. In this role, you will work closely with operations, maintenance, and Mill Leadership to oversee mill operations, logistics, and maintenance activities. Safety is your highest priority, and you will lead maintenance coordination and operational troubleshooting to ensure both quality and productivity goals are achieved. Your specific assignment will be based on your experience. These roles follow a rotating day and night shift, 4 day on, 4 day off schedule.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as the primary point of contact on shift, coordinating with Shift Mill Leaders and operating area teams to ensure seamless operations

  • Act as a lead blocker for safety issues and operational distractions, enabling Shift Mill Leaders to focus on training and advanced operational support
  • Make critical operational decisions to enhance efficiency and maintain continuous 24/7 operations, addressing and resolving immediate issues swiftly
  • Collaborate effectively with teams, ensuring smooth transitions and continuity with hourly staff through effective handoffs
  • Integrate seamlessly as a new salaried leader, providing clear direction while maintaining business continuity
  • Handle logistical challenges, such as urgent part procurement, to prevent disruptions and allow Performance Leaders, Manufacturing Engineers, and Product System Leaders to concentrate on strategic tasks
  • Lead the on-shift team promptly responding to and reporting safety or environmental concerns, acting as an "incident commander" during critical breakdowns to ensure effective resolution
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Experience in cross-team collaboration in an industrial, manufacturing, or military environment.
  • Experience in leading, training, mentoring, or developing hourly employees. Direct supervisory experience is not required.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Direct supervisory experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or military environment.
  • Experience in converting or paper.
  • Experience in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) or similar maintenance management systems
