Job summary

San Bernardino County is hiring a full-time Sheriff’s Cook II to prepare meals and supervise inmates in the kitchen while ensuring sanitation and proper use of equipment. The role requires working weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts, with physical duties including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Ideal candidates have a Culinary Arts certificate or equivalent experience; a San Bernardino County Food Handlers Certificate must be obtained within two weeks of appointment. Excellent benefits are offered.

Job description

Hiring Bonus: $1000 upon hire and $1000 upon completion of 2080 service hours.

Refer employee shall receive a bonus of $250.00 for referred candidate hired into an eligible regular position and $500.00 upon that new employee’s completion of 2080 service hours. See MOU for details.

The Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for Sheriff's Cooks who are responsible for the preparation of food and for the security and supervision of inmates in the kitchen area of the institutional facilities of the Sheriff's Department. This position will work directly with inmates to supervise and train in the safety, preparation and serving of meals, including proper sanitation and ware washing. These positions are also responsible for ensuring constant care and control of all kitchen tools, equipment and utensils.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.

2) Shift: Incumbents will be required to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime as needed.

3) Location: Positions may be located in San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga or Adelanto

4) Physical: This position requires lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, squatting, and reaching.

5) Certificate: Incumbents must obtain a San Bernardino County Food Handlers Certificate within two weeks of appointment.

6) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
