You'll join a collaborative team that cares deeply about animals and the people who love them, and you'll help thousands of pets get healthy and get home.

Expected Hiring Range: $115,000 to $120,000 per year - Relocation Assistance Available

About NOCO Humane

NOCO Humane is an independent nonprofit that has served northern Colorado since 1969. As an open-admission shelter, we believe every animal deserves a safe place to go. In Fiscal Year 2026 we cared for nearly 12,700 animals, placed more than 5,600 in new homes, and performed more than 4,000 surgeries. Guided by Socially Conscious Sheltering, our team serves animals and people with respect, dignity, empathy, and kindness.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform spay/neuter, dental, and other surgeries for shelter animals and limited owned animals
  • Conduct exams, diagnostics, treatment planning, and ongoing medical management
  • Join medical rounds and partner with Animal Care, Behavior & Enrichment, Foster & Transfer, Client Services, and Operations on individual and population health
  • Guide veterinary technicians, assistants, students, interns, and volunteers during patient care
  • Make sound decisions on treatment, quality of life, transfers, and humane euthanasia
  • Support community programs like vaccine and spay/neuter clinics
  • Help the Chief Veterinarian develop medical protocols and train staff on shelter medicine, biosecurity, and disease prevention
  • Keep accurate medical records and ensure compliance with PACFA, DEA, and organizational policies
  • Support other campuses as needed
What You Bring
  • Current Colorado veterinary license (or eligibility for licensure), professional liability insurance, and eligibility to carry a DEA license
  • Demonstrated experience in companion animal medicine and surgery
  • Sound clinical judgment and the ability to balance individual care with population health and available resources
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, plus resilience in emotionally challenging situations
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records
  • At least 21 years old, with a valid Colorado driver’s license, an insurable driving record, and personal auto insurance
  • Willingness to receive rabies vaccination with periodic titer testing

Bonus points for: high-quality/high-volume spay/neuter and shelter medicine experience, practice in fast-paced, limited-resource settings, small mammal and exotics experience, or Spanish fluency.

Schedule & Physical Requirements
  • Generally four or five days per week, including a weekend day, evenings, and the veterinary on-call phone rotation
  • Additional hours or on-site response during emergencies and events
  • Stand for 8 to 10 hours and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Exposure to anesthetic gases, x-rays, sharps, chemicals, zoonotic diseases, bites and scratches, and deceased animals
Benefits
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, supplemental accident insurance, matching 403b retirement plan, paid time off, paid holidays, and more.
