Job summary

Siena Francis House is seeking staff for the overnight/afternoon shelter shift. You will implement agency policies, complete HMIS data entry, and ensure the safety and well-being of shelter guests.

The role requires strong communication, ability to manage multiple tasks, and familiarity with trauma-informed care in a congregate setting. The position supports guests' connections to housing services and other providers.

Responsibilities

  • Model Siena Francis House's mission in all interactions with shelter guests.
  • Complete the Emergency Shelter Orientation Packet with guests upon arrival and as needed.
  • Complete the Critical Incident form and document efforts in HMIS.
  • Maintain a trauma-informed approach with guests, volunteers, and partners.
  • Monitor and supervise guests’ dining hall experiences.
  • Maintain situational awareness and apply the de-escalation model when issues arise.
  • Conduct shelter rounds and walk-throughs to ensure compliance with shelter expectations.
  • Complete documentation tasks (HMIS data entry, shift checklists, work orders) per protocol.
  • Build rapport with guests and learn housing plans to support their goals.
  • Assist guests’ connections to shelter case management and other service providers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Tuesday through Saturday, 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM

Job Purpose

Implements agency policies, procedures, and protocols in Siena Francis House emergency shelter to ensure services to shelter guests meet agency’s standards of care. Completes Homeless Management Information System [HMIS] and other documentation and reporting tasks as assigned through agency policies, procedures, and protocols.

Essential job Duties
  • Models the agency’s mission statement in all interactions with emergency shelter guests.
  • Completes the Siena Francis House Emergency Shelter Orientation Packet with emergency shelter guests upon their arrival, and as needed thereafter.
  • Completes the Siena Francis House Critical Incident form when issues arise and documents these efforts in HMIS.
  • Maintains a trauma-informed approach when interacting with guests, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Monitors and supervises guests’ dining hall experiences.
  • Maintains situational awareness of conditions within emergency shelter environments, implementing the agency’s de-escalation model as quickly as possible when issues arise, and securing assistance from crisis response entities when needed.
  • Completes shelter rounds and walk-throughs to ensure guests are complying with shelter expectations.
  • Completes assigned documentation tasks—including HMIS data entry, shift checklists, work orders, and other items—and follows up item as needed as outlined in the Siena Francis House Emergency Shelter Ongoing Monitoring Protocol, and/or as assigned by supervisor.
  • Builds rapport with emergency shelter guests and—to the extent possible—familiarizes themselves with individuals’ housing plans in order to support guests’ efforts to resolve their episode of homelessness.
  • Supports emergency shelter guests’ connections to other service providers by helping to refer to shelter case management.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of/ability to operate in a way that supports the general principles of trauma-informed care.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of emergency shelter environments.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office products ( email, word, excel)
  • Ability to work with software product such as HMIS. Must receive Clarity training within 60 days of employment.
  • Trauma-informed communication style.
  • Willingness to undergo drug testing and a background investigation.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Experience operating within an emergency shelter environment and/or other type of homeless service provider preferred.
  • Other experience in the human services field will be taken into consideration.
