Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Shelter Shift Leader to oversee day-to-day shelter operations under the Shelter Operations Manager. You will supervise other shelter monitors, coordinate intake and services, and ensure meals, cleanliness, and safe sleeping arrangements.

Strong communication, multi-tasking, and a respectful, service‑oriented approach are essential. A high school diploma and 21+ years old are required.

• Experience in informal mental health/substance abuse evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise other shelter monitors on the shift.
• Ensure adequate intakes/screening, guests spaces, meals, lights out, laundry, showers, and coordination with outside providers.
• Maintain documentation on shift including population statistics, incident reports, and staff log.
• Coordinate monitors and orient new staff on the shift.
• Clean and sanitize all dorms, bathrooms, kitchens, and sleeping areas.
• Perform other related duties as required.

OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Shelter Operations Manager, the Shelter Shift Leader will assure that the day to day functions of the shelters are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for overall supervision of the other shelter monitors on his/her shift
• Insures that: adequate and appropriate intakes/screening are performed; guests have an individual space; meals are served and cleaned up; lights out are timely and respected; laundry and showers are working and available during assigned hours; outside service providers are facilitated in their meetings with guests; all guests are treated with respect and care
• Responsible for all documentation on that shift, including population statistics, incident reports and staff log
• Responsible for coordination of monitors and orientation of new monitors on that shift
• Responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing of all dorms, bathrooms, kitchens and sleeping areas
• Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Education in social services/substance abuse (preferred)
• Experience in informal mental health/ substance abuse evaluation
• 21 years old (required)

• Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties
