Job summary

Child & Family Service in Ewa Beach, Hawaii is seeking a part-time Shelter Services Advocate to promote a safe, supportive environment for shelter participants. You will help ensure basic needs are met and provide trauma-informed engagement to empower clients.

Under the supervision of Shelter Manager or Program Supervisor, you will assist with clothing, food, shelter, and safety needs, while helping participants heal from trauma and build healthier relationships.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma; additional courses in office procedures preferred.
  • Ability to understand and carry out duties effectively; knowledge of bookkeeping, billing, transcription equipment.
  • Experience in shelter or domestic violence field preferred, with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Promote an environment that empowers participants and supports their well-being.
  • Ensure participants’ basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) are met and they are safe in the shelter program.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager or Program Supervisor, the Shelter Services Advocate is responsible for promoting an environment that provides participants a sense of empowerment, improves their well-being, and increases their ability to live safely and independently. The Shelter Services Advocate is primarily responsible for ensuring that participants’ basic needs are met, i.e., they have food, clothing and shelter, and that they are safe and supported while in the shelter program. Provides Trauma-Informed engagement and services to all participants, where the focus is on building healthy relationships and utilizing the healthy relationships to empower participants and help them to heal from their trauma.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • High school, plus additional courses or specialized training at business or community college, or other formal training facility or program. Requires ability to understand and carry out assigned duties effectively. Knowledge needed such as stenography, office routines, elementary accounting procedures; operation of equipment such as bookkeeping and billing machines, tabulating equipment, transcription machines.
EXPERIENCE
  • Over one year, up to and including two years.
  • Other (Specify):
    • Minimum a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of work experience in the domestic violence field or with a related target group and children.
