Job description

HIRING 3RD SHIFT ONLY

The Emergency Shelter Attendant will provide quality, respectful, and courteous service to all guests in the shelter. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, clean environment, supporting and assisting guests, and documenting safety and security concerns.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Complete sign-in documentation and other record keeping for shelter guests.
  2. Log all attendance records for HMIS and grant purposes.
  3. Assist in the preparation and coordination of meals for guests.
  4. Assist in maintaining the safety and security of guests and shelter property, reporting concerns to the supervisor on duty.
  5. Help guests access resources such as laundry, linens, hygiene kits, etc.
  6. Ensure compliance with the emergency shelter procedure manual.
  7. Document incidents accurately and timely, notifying the supervisor on duty.
  8. Maintain the cleanliness of the shelter by performing tasks outlined on daily checklists.
  9. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and trainings assigned by the supervisor.
  10. Stay awake and attentive to shelter guests and operations throughout the shift.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  1. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  2. Ability to work with diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  3. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  4. Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Education and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  2. One (1) year experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness (preferred).
  3. CPR Certification, Crisis Intervention training, and Benefit Bank training (preferred).

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  2. Must be able to stand for 4-8 hours at a time.
  3. Passed pre-employment screenings.
