Job summary

Seattle Humane is seeking an Animal Care Associate (ACA) I to join the Shelter Care Team. This union-represented role emphasizes direct animal care, feeding, cleaning, socializing, and medication administration, with opportunities to advance within the program.

The position requires good communication, basic computer skills, and compassion for animals and people; a high school graduate or GED is preferred, with former animal handling experience preferred. Full-time schedule, non-exempt.

Qualifications

  • Animal handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and volunteers effectively.
  • Good writing and listening skills are required.
  • Basic knowledge of computers is required.
  • Experience working with animals in a shelter setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct animal care including feeding, cleaning, socializing, and medicating as directed.
  • Keep animal areas clean, restocked, and organized.
  • Enter observations into the pet database and monitor wellbeing.
  • Work with volunteers to complete care duties and participate in meetings.
  • Adhere to SOPs, Five Freedoms, and safety procedures.
