Job summary

St. Clair County Animal Services is seeking a part-time Animal Care Assistant to help uphold the county's no-kill mission by providing hands-on care for dogs and cats, and serving as an ambassador for residents, volunteers, and adopters.

You will feed, water, medicate, and observe animals while maintaining records and promoting humane care. Responsibilities include enrichment, behavior observation, shelter cleaning, and ensuring safety.

Qualifications

• Must be able to provide basic and routine care for shelter animals.
• Excellent customer service to visitors, volunteers, and adopters.
• Strong written and verbal communication for notes and reports.
• Ability to enter data and maintain records accurately.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic and routine care for the animals per department guidelines, including feeding, watering, and handling.
• Supports animals with medical issues by medicating, treating, preparing special diets, observing, and reporting.
• Provides socialization, enrichment, and exercise for the animals as directed.
• Identifies behavioral issues and shares observations with team members and leaders.
• Cleans work areas and maintains facility appearance, reports maintenance needs.
• Follows safety procedures and participates in job-specific trainings.
