Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a skilled sheet metal technician responsible for fabricating and installing ductwork for HVAC systems, exhaust systems, roofing systems and related sheet metal work at on-site facilities. You may lead apprentices and mentor junior team members.

The role requires reading blueprints, precise measurement and applying advanced sheet metal methods. A high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas driver’s license are required; schedule is Monday–Friday, 7am–3:30pm,

Responsibilities

• Performs sheet metal work in construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings.
• Builds/fabricates ductwork including transitions, connections, seams and joints; constructs hoods, vents, pans, machine guards and other items.
• Installs/repairs duct work and related components for ventilation and exhaust systems.
• Installs finish trim for HVAC systems (registers, grills, outlets).
• Builds, installs and maintains flashing, gutters and roofing materials on roofs.
• Demonstrates material demolition, removal and installation of HVAC projects.
• Plans work under supervision and assists in training apprentices and journeymen.
• Maintains as-built conditions on jobsite plans.

Job description

Under limited supervision, responsible for providing skilled craftsmanship performing tasks to include sheet metal fabrication for HVAC systems, exhaust systems, roofing systems and miscellaneous sheet metal work. May lead or mentor lower level team members.

Schedule: 7am-3:30pm Monday thru Friday

Responsibilities

• Performs sheet metal work in the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings.
• Builds/fabricates ductwork, involving transitions, connections, seams and joints; constructs hoods, vents, pans, machine guards and other items as needed.
• Installs/repairs duct work, terminal air devices, access doors, dampers, ductwork insulation, and other system components for ventilation and exhaust machinery.
• Installs finish trim for HVAC systems, including registers, grills and outlets.
• Builds, installs, and maintains flashing, gutters, rain spouts, rainproof heads and other roofing materials on roofs.
• Provides material demolition, removal and installation of HVAC projects.
• Plans the work under the direction of the sheetmetal shop leader and assists in the training of apprentice and journeymen skilled workers in the trade.
• Maintains and records as-built conditions on jobsite plans.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of sheet metal methods; demonstrated proficiency in the use of precision measurement equipment, hand tool and related equipment; ability to make mathematical calculations related to daily job functions.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain technical manuals, blueprints, and other technical information.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to present information in one-on-one or group situations.
• Ability to solve practical problems and handle changing requirements in a timely manner.
• Ability to collaborate and gain cooperation in team-oriented environment.

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or GED is required.

LICENSES:

• Valid Texas driver's license is required - must have a clear driving record.

Required Skills

• Four (4) years of sheet metal experience is required

This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
