Duties

As a civilian federal civil service Sheet Metal Worker with the Department of Navy’s Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida, you will work in the Production Lines Division, MRO Production Department at Fleet Readiness Center Southeast, (FRCSE).

The primary purpose of the position is to perform a variety of metal repair, fabrication, planning, layout, and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components. You will assist higher graded mechanics in the full range of their duties.

Your responsibilities as a Sheet Metal Worker will require you to:

• Perform a variety of metal repair, fabrication, planning, layout, and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components.
• Work from drawings, manuals, technical directives, and instructions.
• Use hand power tools and metalworking tools to repair, manufacture, and/or modify aircraft or aircraft engine assemblies or parts.
• Manufacture and install patches, splices, reinforcements, and the use of replacement parts to repair damaged components.

The ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision, including:

1. Examining, repairing, manufacturing, and modifying sheet metal parts and components of aircraft in order to install straight edges and/or regular curves.
2. Forming sheet metal using hand and power tools to execute projects efficiently.
3. Planning and laying out work in accordance with blueprints, technical manuals, and engineering specifications.
4. Disassembling, repairing, and modifying to process aircraft, aircraft engine structure, and components. Works with a high degree of independence.

NOTE: U.S. citizenship required and the ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

Salary and Benefits

This skilled trade position has a WG-8 wage range of $24.72 - $28.80 per hour.
