Job summary

Textron Aviation in Orlando, FL is seeking a Sheet Metal Technician on the 6th shift to fabricate, assemble, and repair precision sheet metal components for general aviation aircraft. You’ll work hands-on with cutting, forming, welding and finishing metal parts, taking pride in craftsmanship, quality and safety on every build.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 2 years of aviation sheet metal experience, and FAA knowledge (AC 43.13-1B).

Qualifications

• High school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification is required.
• A minimum 2 years of diversified aviation sheet metal experience is required.
• Working knowledge of aircraft structural repair manuals and FAA AC 43.13‑1B.
• Ability to identify corrosion types and perform approved corrosion removal procedures.
• Experience applying and removing wash etch, alodine, and primer.
• Ability to identify and work with aircraft rivets, bolts, screws, nuts, and washers.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security badge, as required.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and verbal instructions to plan scope, sequences, methods, and materials, ensuring precision and alignment with project requirements.
• Lay out, alter, bend, and form sheet metal parts using approved techniques to achieve exact fit, form, and function.
• Prepare holes across various metals through accurate drilling, deburring, countersinking, and dimpling to support high‑quality fastener installation.
• Install solid and blind rivets using rivet guns, squeeze tools, and specialty fasteners to ensure structural integrity and consistency.
• Remove rivets and sheet metal components as needed to support modifications, repairs, and final configuration requirements.
• Execute all work to the highest airworthiness, safety, and reliability standards.

What you will be doing as a Lead Sheet Metal Technician:

In this role, you can expect to fabricate, assemble, and repair precision sheet metal components that keep general aviation aircraft flight ‑ ready . You’ll work hands‑on with advanced tools and equipment—cutting, forming, welding, and finishing metal parts—while taking pride in craftsmanship, quality, and safety on every build.

Your responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

• Blueprint – Driven Build Execution: Interpret blueprints, drawings, and verbal instructions to plan scope, sequences, methods, and materials, ensuring precision and alignment with project requirements
• Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication: Lay out, alter, bend, and form sheet metal parts using approved techniques to achieve exact fit, form, and function
• Drilling, Countersinking, and Dimpling: Prepare holes across various metals through accurate drilling, deburring, countersinking, and dimpling to support high ‑ quality fastener installation
• Advanced Riveting and Fastening: Install solid and blind rivets using rivet guns, squeeze tools, and specialty fasteners to ensure structural integrity and consistency
• Component Removal and Rework: Remove rivets and sheet metal components as needed to support modifications, repairs, and final configuration requirements
• Aircraft Safety and Quality Standards: Execute all work to the highest airworthiness, safety, and reliability standards, contributing directly to customer and flight safety

What you need to be successful:

Required education and experience:

A high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification is required

A minimum 2 years of diversified aviation sheet metal experience is required

Other qualifications:

Aircraft Structures & FAA Standards:

Working knowledge of aircraft structural repair manuals and FAA AC 43.13 ‑ 1B

Corrosion Identification & Treatment:

Ability to identify corrosion types and perform approved corrosion removal procedures

Surface Prep & Protective Coatings:

Experience applying and removing wash etch, alodine , and primer

Aviation Hardware Knowledge:

Ability to identify and work with aircraft rivets, bolts, screws, nuts, and washers

Security Clearance Eligibility:

Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security badge, as required
