Job summary

B&I Contractors, Inc. is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Superintendent to lead field teams across multiple sites, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, and quality workmanship on large-scale HVAC/mechanical projects in Florida.

You will mentor Foremen, coordinate with BIM and PMs, manage manpower and procurement, and uphold industry standards and company values established since 1960. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Six years of field experience with at least four years in a supervisory Foreman role.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, Pull Plan, coordination, and manpower planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC duct systems and applicable codes.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to work across trades.
  • Proficiency with computer-based scheduling, reporting, and communication tools.
  • Knowledge of SMACNA, FL Building, NFPA, FGI and AHCA codes.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specs, submittals; approve procurement of materials and tools.
  • Plan manpower and resources to maximize field productivity.

  • Mentor Foremen through performance feedback and coaching.
  • Ensure daily timekeeping and safety documentation are completed.
  • Coordinate with BIM team to validate shop drawings.
  • Develop project manpower projections with PM and Foreman.
  • Serve as liaison between project management, foreman, and client.
  • Oversee labor tracking and ensure accurate progress updates.
  • Participate in weekly jobsite meetings, aiming in-person attendance.
  • Motivate team to maintain safe, productive environments.
  • Provide cost-to-complete reports monthly.
  • Coordinate equipment/material delivery dates with PMs.
  • Approve shop drawings in a timely manner to CAD/PMs.
  • Monitor look-ahead schedules and identify risks early.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Sheetmetal Superintendent overseas and coordinates multiple project sites and field teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality installation and construction activities. This role provides leadership to Foremen and field personnel, ensuring schedules, budgets, and quality standards are met. The Superintendent acts as a liaison between project management and field operations to drive performance and maintain excellence in workmanship and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Foster a culture of quality, integrity, safety, and teamwork.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of Foremen and field teams across assigned projects to ensure adherence to project schedules, budgets, and company standards.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and submittals; review and approve procurement of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Plan and allocate manpower and resources to maximize field productivity and minimize project delays or conflicts.
  • Conduct regular project site visits to assess progress, safety compliance, and quality of work; identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Evaluate and mentor Foremen and field staff through performance appraisals, feedback, and ongoing coaching to promote professional growth and accountability.
  • Ensure all assigned Foreman are completing accurate records including daily timekeeping, daily logs, safety documentation, and all other required forms.
  • Coordinate closely with the BIM team to validate the precision and constructability of finalized shop drawings.
  • Work with the PM & Foreman to develop project manpower projections.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between project management, foreman, and client representative.
  • Oversee the labor tracking process for assigned projects to ensure foreman are updating progress accurately and consistently.
  • Participate in jobsite meeting with project foreman on a weekly basis, aiming for in-person attendance whenever feasible (at least once every two weeks)
  • Uplift and motivate Forman and team members to promote healthy job-site environment and attitude.
  • Provide accurate cost to complete reports on monthly basis.
  • Monitor and coordinate equipment and material delivery dates with project managers based on jobsite schedules.
  • Provide approval for shop drawings in timely manner to CAD department and PMs.
  • Monitors look ahead schedules and identify risks early to avoid financial impacts
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 6 years of field experience, including at least four years in a supervisory or Foreman role.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, Pull Plan, coordination, and manpower planning.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC duct systems and applicable codes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across trades and departments.
  • Proficiency in computer-based scheduling, reporting, and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, project management software).
  • Strong understanding of SMACNA, FL Building, NFPA codes, FGI guidelines, and AHCA codes.
  • Ability to trouble shoot Test and Balance issues.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

This position requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to perform tasks involving physical labor, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials, tools, or equipment. Manual material handling must be performed in accordance with OSHA safety standards and company policies to minimize risk of injury.
