Job summary

Titan Talent Development, LLC is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal components in shipyard environments. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience, knowledge of fabrication equipment, and a strong commitment to safety.

Job description

This position is responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal components and systems aboard ships and within shipyard facilities. Sheetmetal Mechanics works from blueprints and specifications to build and install ducting, ventilation systems, panels, and structural sheet metal assemblies while maintaining strict safety, quality, and production standards.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work packages, and technical specifications.
  • Layout, measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
  • Fabricate and install ductwork, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, panels, housings, and other shipboard sheet metal components.
  • Operate shears, press brakes, rollers, grinders, and other sheet metal machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Install sheet metal assemblies aboard vessels, in confined spaces, and in elevated or restricted-access areas.
  • Perform tack welding or fastening operations as required to secure assemblies.
  • Ensure proper fit, alignment, and quality of installed components prior to final inspection.
  • Work aboard ships, dry docks, and within active shipyard production areas.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including hot work safety, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, fall protection, and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work area.
  • Coordinate and communicate with shipfitters, welders, pipefitters, and supervisors to complete projects safely and on schedule.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of shipyard, marine, or industrial sheet metal experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layout drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience operating sheet metal fabrication equipment (press brakes, shears, rollers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ductwork fabrication and installation in marine environments preferred.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to shipyard procedures.
  • Excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working in shipyards or NAVSEA environments preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to all area shipyards and naval bases (DBIDS clearance required).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and maneuver in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, and fall protection equipment.
  • Ability to work in shipyard environments, including onboard vessels, dry docks, and outdoor conditions.
Work Schedule & Hours
  • Full-time position averaging 48–56 hours per week, including some weekends.
  • Overtime and extended hours may be required based on production schedules and project deadlines.
