Aerotek is seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic / Production Structures Assembler – F-16 Technician in Greer, SC. The role focuses on hands-on fuselage assembly, thin metal work, and precision fastening for multiple military aircraft programs in a climate-controlled facility.

Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, fabricating and installing sheet metal components, performing precision drilling/riveting, and supporting structural modifications in an MRO setting.

Qualifications

Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic / Production Structures Assembler – F-16 Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on hands-on production structures build-up of fuselage components for F-16 aircraft. You will interpret blueprints and fastener layouts, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal and structural assemblies and sub-assemblies using precision measuring equipment. The position requires strong aircraft structural assembly skills and the ability to perform high-quality work on complex aerospace structures in a climate-controlled facility.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and fastener layouts to complete structural assemblies and sub-assemblies for F-16 aircraft.
• Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair a wide range of sheet metal and structural components, with a focus on fuselage build-up and flight control-related structures.
• Perform precision drilling and reaming operations to prepare and finish holes for fasteners in thin metal and aircraft structural materials.
• Install various types of aircraft fasteners, including riveting and other mechanical fastening methods, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with specifications.
• Execute countersinking, part trimming, and shimming operations to achieve proper fit, finish, and aerodynamic requirements of aircraft structures.
• Carry out aircraft sheet metal repairs and structural maintenance tasks, including heavy and depot-level maintenance activities as required.
• Support aircraft modification work, including structural changes, upgrades, and reconfigurations in an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) environment.
• Use precision measuring equipment and appropriate tools to verify dimensions, alignment, and tolerances of assembled structures.
• Work safely and efficiently in a production environment, following established processes, procedures, and quality standards for aircraft systems and structures.
• Collaborate with other technicians and teams to troubleshoot structural issues and ensure timely completion of maintenance, repair, and modification projects.
• Adapt to first or second shift schedules as needed and participate in training on first shift prior to transitioning to the assigned final shift.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 4+ years of structural mechanic, aircraft sheet metal, and repair experience.
• Recent sheet metal experience with thin metal work such as flight controls and similar components, with comfort working on thinner materials.
• Hands-on experience in aircraft structural assembly, aircraft structural maintenance, and aircraft sheet metal repairs.
• Proficiency in sheet metal fabrication, including drilling, riveting, countersinking, trimming, and shimming operations.
• Experience performing aircraft modification work in an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility.
• Ability to perform precision drilling and reaming and to install various aircraft fasteners using appropriate tools and methods.
• Knowledge of aircraft systems and structural components, including heavy and depot-level maintenance practices.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and structural layouts accurately.
• Competence using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Willingness and ability to work either first or second shift, including training on first shift prior to assignment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on F-16 aircraft structures or similar military or general aviation platforms.
• Experience in general aviation or fabrication environments involving thin metal and flight control components.
• Exposure to aircraft modification and heavy maintenance programs across multiple aircraft types.
• Familiarity with depot-level maintenance processes and standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a structured production environment with climate-controlled conditions.

Work Environment

Work takes place in a climate‑controlled facility operated by a major defense and aircraft manufacturer. The environment is highly structured and focused on aerospace production, maintenance, repair, and modification of multiple military aircraft types such as C‑130, P‑3, UH‑60, F‑22, F‑16, and others. Technicians train initially on first shift and then transition to their final assigned shift: first shift runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and second shift runs Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Overtime opportunities may be available. The role involves working with precision measuring equipment and standard aircraft sheet metal tools, and no personal tools are required. The facility operates with a professional aerospace production atmosphere and established safety and quality procedures.

This is a Contract position based out of Greer, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
