Job summary

Allied Mechanical is seeking motivated Sheet Metal Install Apprentices to join our HVAC and mechanical contracting teams. This ground-floor opportunity lets you learn from journeymen while installing ductwork, fittings, and mechanical systems on commercial and industrial sites.

You'll gain hands-on experience, with training in layout, fabrication, and installation, while adapting to varied conditions. A strong willingness to learn and reliable attendance are essential to success in this role.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn the sheet metal trade and commit to a long-term career path.
• Basic mechanical aptitude with hands-on tasks and tool use.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and perform physical work in varying conditions.
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist journeymen and foremen with layout, fabrication, and installation of sheet metal ductwork and fittings.
• Help stage and load fabricated materials for transport to job sites.
• Read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and shop tickets as skills develop.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow PPE and safety protocols.
• Support field crews with material handling, tool management, and general labor as directed.
• Participate in on-the-job training and apprenticeship coursework required by the company.

What You'll Do

• Assist journeymen and foremen with layout, fabrication, and installation of sheet metal ductwork and fittings
• Help stage and load fabricated materials for transport to job sites
• Read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and shop tickets as skills develop
• Keep work areas clean and organized — enforce proper PPE use and follow safety protocols at all times
• Support field crews with material handling, tool management, and general labor as directed
• Participate in on-the-job training and any apprenticeship program coursework required by the company

Required:

• Willingness to learn the sheet metal trade and commit to a long-term career path
• Basic mechanical aptitude — comfortable working with tools and hands-on tasks
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and perform physical work in varying conditions (heat, heights, confined spaces)
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening

Preferred

• Some prior construction, fabrication, or trades experience — any craft welcome
• Vocational or technical school coursework in HVAC, welding, or sheet metal
• Familiarity with hand tools and basic measuring
• OSHA 10 certification (construction) or ability to obtain
