Job description

Metro Mechanical is seeking an experience Sheet Metal Foreman in Hammond, LA.

The ideal candidate will have strong commercial HVAC sheet metal experience and the ability to lead a field crew while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to plans and specifications.

This position is responsible for overseeing the installation of commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems, coordinating daily field activities, and providing hands‑on leadership to installers and apprentices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise sheet metal crews on commercial HVAC projects
• Oversee the installation of ductwork, fittings, dampers, louvers, equipment connections, and other sheet metal components
• Read and interpret mechanical plans, blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings
• Plan daily manpower, materials, tools, and equipment needed to complete assigned work
• Coordinate field activities with project managers, superintendents, general contractors, and other trades
• Ensure installations are completed according to project plans, specifications, and applicable codes
• Verify ductwork dimensions, layout, elevations, and installation locations
• Identify and communicate potential issues, conflicts, or changes in the field
• Track project progress and communicate updates to project management
• Ensure materials are available and properly staged for installation
• Train, mentor, and provide direction to apprentices, helpers, and less‑experienced sheet metal workers
• Maintain productivity and ensure work stays on schedule
• Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy
• Coordinate with other trades to avoid jobsite conflicts and delays
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite
• Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
• Assist with troubleshooting installation issues and developing field solutions
• Complete required documentation, timekeeping, and daily reports
• Perform hands‑on sheet metal installation as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial sheet metal/HVAC experience
• Previous experience as a Sheet Metal Foreman, Lead Installer, or Senior Sheet Metal Mechanic
• Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC ductwork installation
• Experience with rectangular and spiral ductwork
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and shop drawings
• Strong understanding of ductwork layout, fittings, transitions, and equipment connections
• Ability to accurately measure and lay out work in the field
• Experience leading and directing a crew
• Strong knowledge of hand and power tools used in sheet metal installation
• Ability to coordinate effectively with other trades and construction personnel
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to identify and resolve field issues
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
• Strong commitment to safety and quality
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years of commercial HVAC/sheet metal experience
• Previous Foreman experience
• Experience on large commercial, industrial, government, or institutional projects
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Sheet Metal Workers apprenticeship or formal trade training
• Experience with BIM/VDC coordination or construction technology
• Experience working from coordinated MEP drawings
