Job summary

Benedict Sales & Service, Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking a Sheet Metal Fabricator to join our Service department. You will fabricate, build, and install metal structures for commercial refrigeration, HVAC, and related projects, working mostly independently with occasional team collaboration.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, measuring and cutting metal, welding, and ensuring safety standards. This role requires a high school diploma and preferably vocational training; strong mechanical

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • Experience with sheet metal or refrigeration equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings to fabricate metal components.
  • Cut, form, weld, and assemble sheet metal per specifications.
  • Select materials based on strength and project requirements.
  • Operate and maintain sheet metal shop equipment safely.
  • Record work progress in the computerized system.
  • Collaborate with service teams when required.

Position: Sheet Metal Fabricator

Department: Service

Reports To: Service Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Type: Full time

Position Summary

The Sheet Metal Fabricator will fabricate, build, and install various types of metal structures and equipment for commercial refrigeration, HVAC, and other mechanical projects. This position does not have direct reports, primarily performs work independently with occasional team/group work environments and is under direct supervision.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • Reads and understands technical drawings (e.g., blueprints, schematics).
  • Measures, cuts, and welds pieces together according to specifications, blueprints, or directions.
  • Selects appropriate material for each job based on the desired or necessary strength.
  • Cuts, bends, and shapes sheet metal to required dimensions.
  • Connects pieces or secures seams by riveting, rolling, soldering, or using steel screws.
  • Maintains clean and orderly workspace(s).
  • Utilizes a computerized management system to accurately record work progress and history.
  • Sets and achieves individual goals and supports department goals by contributing to a team environment.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, assertiveness, versatility, and follow-through in responding to customer needs.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, timeliness, accuracy, and projects a positive company image in all assigned duties.
  • Complies with all company and industry safety standards.

Physical Demands

Stationary Position: Must be able to maintain a stationary position for 2-4 hours.

Move: Continually required to walk inside and outside jobsites and other work locations. Prolonged periods of lifting, reaching, and constant maneuvering of large metal pieces.

Operate: Frequently operates machinery and power tools involved with sheet metal work. Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Repetitive finger motion, hand dexterity, outward and upward arm extension, and elbow bending is required.

Ascend/Descend: Occasionally required to ascend/descend stairs and ladders to access all areas of equipment.

Positions self: Performs work in a constant standing position with regular bending and stooping. Constantly required to perform work at or below chest level. Prolonged periods of head & neck positioning downward.

Communicate: Occasionally communicates with internal and external customers using spoken word and the ability to perceive the natural sounds of normal speaking levels. Must be able to exchange accurate information through oral and written communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

Observe/Inspect: Able to observe details at close range, distance range, peripherally and with the ability to adjust focus. Frequently utilizes visual acuity to operate power tools & equipment and read technical information.

Transport: Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds, occasionally 75+ pounds.

Exposed to: Frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to loud noise and vibration consistent with use of power tools and equipment and sharp/raw metal edges.
