Job summary

Dynamic Aviation is seeking an Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic (Contractor) to perform heavy maintenance and modifications on Dash 8 and King Air aircraft. Based in Bridgewater, VA, you will work hands-on to inspect, repair, and modify airframe structures in a fast-paced hangar environment.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of experience, an FAA A&P or related training, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. You’ll ensure compliance with manuals, regulations, and quality standards while maintaining complete

Qualifications

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant license preferred.
  • 5+ years hands-on heavy aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Trade school or military training in aircraft structures preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of sheet metal principals, tools, and techniques.
  • High school education required; some college preferred.
  • Must provide own tools.
  • Work well in a team environment.
  • Experience in AS9100 / ISO 9001 or DCMA environments preferred.
  • FAA Part 145 experience or knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect components for cracks, leaks, or damage.
  • Perform routine and special inspections per regulations.
  • Certify maintenance readiness of aircraft.
  • Read manuals and directives to determine repair methods.
  • Maintain repair logs documenting preventive maintenance.
  • Modify structures and components per drawings and specs.
  • Replace worn or damaged components with hand tools and gauges.
  • Diagnose issues from pilots' descriptions.
  • Assemble and install electrical, hydraulic, mechanical components.
  • Inventory and order parts and materials.
  • Check for corrosion and cracks in fuselage, wings, tail.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance; major repairs.
  • Perform complex modifications and disassembly/assembly.
  • Use special tooling for parts replacement.
  • Sheet metal bends to guidelines.
  • Read manuals, catalogs, schematics to determine repair.
  • Complete required paperwork per Federal Regulations.
  • Maintain safe, clean work environment.
  • Communicate with Team Lead on updates.
  • Follow Repair Station QC manual tag instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Purpose

The Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic (Contractor) is responsible for performing heavy maintenance and modifications on Dash 8 and King Air aircraft.

Responsibilities
  • Examine and inspect aircraft components, including landing gear, hydraulic systems, and deicers to locate cracks, breaks, leaks, or other problems
  • Conduct routine and special inspections as required by regulations
  • Inspect completed work to certify that maintenance meets standards and that aircraft are ready for operation
  • Read and interpret maintenance manuals and FAA/manufacturer publications and directives to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components
  • Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance
  • Modify aircraft structures, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications
  • Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment
  • Read and interpret pilots' descriptions of problems to diagnose causes
  • Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand or power tools
  • Inventory and ordering supplies, parts, materials, and equipment
  • Check for corrosion, distortion, and cracks in the fuselage, wings, and tail
  • Perform scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance, minor and major airframe repairs working in a high-quality, efficient manner
  • Perform various complex modifications, structures repair, fabrication, plan, layout and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components
  • Remove, replace, and repair aircraft structure and components with use of special tooling utilizing applicable technical data
  • Perform sheet metal bends to guidelines and specifications
  • Use shop mathematics to determine curves, angles, pitch, etc.
  • Work with various kinds of metal such as: honeycomb material, aluminum and aluminum alloys, titanium, stainless steel, etc.
  • Utilize various glues, sealants, epoxy, pro-seal, and in addition to other chemicals/consumables as required per applicable technical data
  • Read and interpret manufacturer Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, Repair Drawings, Structural Repair Manuals, Service Bulletins, technical directives, drawings, blueprints, and schematics etc. to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing damaged aircraft structure components.
  • Properly complete required paperwork to comply with Federal Regulations and applicable company policy/procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment and report any unsafe conditions
  • Maintain communication with assigned Team Lead for task updates and status reports
  • Maintains responsibility for proper execution of parts tag instructions in accordance with Repair Station Quality Control Manual
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications

  • 5 years + recent hands-on experience performing heavy aircraft maintenance and modifications
  • Relevant trade school or military training equivalent for aircraft structures preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of sheet metal principals, tools, and techniques
  • High school education required; some college preferred
  • Must provide own tools, shadowed and etched
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Experience working in an AS9100 / ISO 9001 or DCMA environment preferred
  • Experience working under FAA Part 145 or demonstrated knowledge preferred
  • Ability to: lift, balance, and carry 50 lbs, crawl in and out of tight spaces, and predominantly work in enclosed hangars, occasionally in exterior weather conditions or elevated heights
