Job summary

Sulzer in Portland is seeking a Stainless Steel Shear & Fabrication Operator to run manual shearing and fabrication machinery per drawings and specs. You will read blueprints, perform layout and measurement, and operate equipment like roll formers, drill presses, and saws.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; manufacturing or sheet metal experience preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and shop instructions.
• Strong math skills: fractions/decimals, conversions, geometry, tape measure accuracy.
• Experience using measuring and inspection tools.
• Attention to detail and safe operation of fabrication equipment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual shearing equipment to cut stainless steel to specified dimensions and tolerances.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders and specifications.
• Perform layout, measuring, and marking of stainless steel materials.
• Operate fabrication equipment including roll forming, plate rolling, drill presses, band saws, and grinders.
• Verify dimensions and quality using measuring tools.
• Complete fabrication operations on schedule while meeting quality standards.
• Safely move and handle stainless steel materials and parts throughout production.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, organized condition and follow PPE requirements.

This position requires strong blueprint-reading abilities, manufacturing math skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities*** Set up and operate manual shearing equipment to cut stainless steel materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.* Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and manufacturing specifications.* Perform layout, measuring, and marking of stainless steel materials.* Operate fabrication equipment, including but not limited to: + Roll forming and plate rolling machines + Drill presses + Band saws and cold saws + Angle grinders + Deburring equipment + Other fabrication machinery as assigned* Verify dimensions and quality using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and gauges.* Complete fabrication operations accurately while meeting production schedules and quality standards.* Safely move and handle stainless steel materials and fabricated parts throughout the production process.* Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and organized condition.* Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).* Report quality, safety, maintenance, or material concerns to supervisors promptly.**Qualifications****Required*** High school diploma or GED.* Manufacturing, metal fabrication, or sheet metal experience preferred.* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and shop work instructions.* Strong manufacturing math skills, including: + Fractions and decimals + Measurement conversions + Basic geometry + Accurate tape measure reading* Experience using common measuring and inspection tools.* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.* Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate fabrication equipment safely.* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.**Physical Requirements*** Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.* Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.* Perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with fabrication operations.* Regular bending, reaching, stooping, and twisting.* Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment and moving materials.**Work Environment*** Stainless steel fabrication and manufacturing environment.* Exposure to machinery, noise, dust, sharp metal edges, and material handling activities.* Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE.**Key Skills*** Blueprint reading and interpretation* Stainless steel material handling* Manufacturing mathematics* Precision measuring* Mechanical aptitude* Quality and safety awareness* Time management* Teamwork and communication# What we offer you* 15 days of paid time off and 12 company-paid holidays* 401k plan with a 6% match* Comprehensive health plan including medical, dental, vision, Life, short-term & long-term disability* Motivating wellness program* Employee Assistance Program* Paid paternal leave* Gym re-imbursementSulzer is an equal opportunity employer.
