Job summary

Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) seeks compassionate Registered Nurses to serve as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs). These on-call, PRN positions provide trauma-informed medical and forensic care to survivors, in collaboration with advocates, medical staff, law enforcement, and community partners.

Ideal candidates hold an active Georgia RN license and BLS certification, with experience in emergency or forensic nursing preferred.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license in Georgia.
• Current BLS certification.
• Experience in emergency, critical care, women’s health, pediatric, or forensic nursing preferred but not required.
• Strong assessment, communication, documentation, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care to patients following an allegation of sexual assault.
• Perform comprehensive forensic medical examinations in accordance with SARC policies and Georgia guidelines.
• Collect, document, preserve, and maintain forensic evidence with proper chain of custody.
• Assess and address the patient’s immediate medical needs.
• Educate on STIs, pregnancy prevention, follow-up care, and available resources.
• Maintain accurate medical and forensic documentation.
• Collaborate with SARC advocates, ED staff, law enforcement, and other team members.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical care standards.
• Participate in required SANE education, continuing education, and quality assurance activities.
• Maintain readiness to respond during assigned on-call availability.

Position: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)

Service Arrangement: PRN / On-Call

Position Overview

The Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) is seeking compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Registered Nurses to provide specialized medical and forensic services as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs). SANEs provide specialized, trauma-informed medical and forensic care to patients who have experienced sexual assault. This opportunity allows experienced nurses to provide meaningful care while working collaboratively with advocates, medical providers, law enforcement, and other community partners. SANE services are provided on an on-call basis, with nurses participating in the SARC on-call rotation. SANEs should be prepared to accept and respond to cases during their assigned on-call availability.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care to patients following an allegation of sexual assault.
• Perform comprehensive forensic medical examinations in accordance with SARC policies, current standards of practice, and applicable Georgia guidelines.
• Collect, document, preserve, and maintain forensic evidence and ensure proper chain of custody.
• Assess and address the patient's immediate medical needs.
• Provide appropriate education regarding sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy prevention, follow-up care, and available resources.
• Maintain accurate and thorough medical and forensic documentation.
• Work collaboratively with SARC advocates, emergency department staff, law enforcement, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical care.
• Participate in required SANE education, continuing education, competency requirements, and quality assurance activities.
• Maintain readiness to respond to cases during assigned on-call availability.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Georgia.
• Current BLS certification.
• Previous emergency, critical care, women's health, pediatric, or forensic nursing experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong assessment, communication, documentation, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to provide calm, compassionate, nonjudgmental care in emotionally challenging situations.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Successful completion of required SANE education and clinical training, or willingness to complete SANE training as required.

On-Call Participation

• SANEs participate in the SARC on-call rotation.
• On-call availability may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• SANEs are expected to maintain regular participation in the on-call rotation and to accept assigned on-call availability based on SARC's scheduling needs.
• When contacted during an assigned on-call period, SANEs must be able to respond within the required timeframe.
• The frequency of on-call opportunities may vary based on patient volume, staffing, and organizational needs.
