Job summary

The New School's Parsons School for Design seeks a Full-time Technician in Sewing and Soft Construction for the Making Center in New York City. The role focuses on sewing, shoemaking, and soft construction support, working with students and faculty in a 70,000 sq ft facility year-round.

Responsibilities include equipment demos, purchases, documentation, onboarding, and ensuring smooth daily operations across labs, with a union contract and a fixed-term appointment. On-site work is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of relevant experience in the field.
• Proficiency with WebCheckout or similar equipment management system within 6 months.
• Knowledge of industrial sewing techniques and machinery.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work across Windows and macOS environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe shop and supportive environment for students and staff.
• Assist faculty and students; lead equipment demos and orientations.
• Manage tool checkout, inventory, and scheduling systems.
• Create user-friendly technical documentation and signage for labs.
• Support facility improvements and collaborative Making Center initiatives.
