Job summary

Apex International is seeking a Set Up Technician at our Chaska facility for a Sunday-Thursday nighttime schedule. The role focuses on setting up and maintaining equipment to achieve product stability and specifications, while supporting lean initiatives and continuous improvement.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in manufacturing, hands-on mechanical skills, and familiarity with PLC programs. A high school diploma is preferred.

Qualifications

• Prior manufacturing experience required (1–2 years).
• Prefer maintenance/set up exposure on high-speed equipment.
• Must be able to read and write at least a 6th-grade level.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, re-assemble, adjust, program and set up equipment to meet specifications.
• Coordinate tasks related to changes in parts for productions needs.
• Keep parts room clean and assist with tank farm and sanitation areas.
• Ensure communication, training and process improvements occur.
• Support Lean initiatives within the department and perform other duties.

We are currently seeking a Set Up Technician at our Chaska location. This non-exempt, Sunday-Thursday nighttime role will report to the Maintenance-Set Up Manager and establish and maintain a world-class stability program that generates optimum product stability data that exceeds customer needs.

Job Responsibilities

• Effectively disassemble, re-assemble, adjust, program, and set up equipment as needed to produce the customers' products within the desired specifications as called out on the Apex Product Specifications.
• Effectively coordinate and perform tasks as they relate to productions needs for change parts.
• Coordinate clean parts room and help maintain the tank farm and sanitation room in a clean and organized manner.
• Ensure communication, training, and process improvements are taking place.
• Understand and maintain a culture of "lean action" within the department so that we live lean better than any organization.
• Perform other work as assigned.

Job Requirements

• 1 – 2 year of prior relevant experience in in a manufacturing environment required
• High school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred
• Prefer 1-3 years of experience in a maintenance/repair/set up position, ideally with high speed mechanical or electromechanical equipment and systems.
• Prefer 1-2 years Vo-tech or equivalent in an associated field (mechanics, auto repair, machine repair, etc.)
• Demonstrated mechanical and electromechanical skills.
• Has demonstrated working knowledge of how to recall, run, and store existing PLC programs (e.g. REB machine and Shorewood) or possesses the skills to learn this task.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of all hand tools in both metric and English.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of all fasteners, metric and English or possesses the skills to learn this task.
• Must possess solid communication skills and read and write at the 6th grade level, 12th grade level preferred.
• To be effective, this position requires an ability to follow directions and written processes and procedures.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and able to work with fractions and decimals is a plus.
