Job summary

Comar, a manufacturing company in Vineland, NJ, seeks a skilled manufacturing operator to operate equipment and set up machines, ensuring safe and efficient production.

You will install/remove molds and tooling, introduce correct materials, and perform basic maintenance while upholding GMP and SQF standards. A strong emphasis on safety and quality guides daily work activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; knowledge of manufacturing machinery is required.
  • Experience operating plastic injection molding equipment and related tooling.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read instructions and diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and set up machines to ensure safe, efficient production.
  • Install/remove molds and tooling for each job and verify material readiness.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and verify safety devices daily.
  • Support start-up and production of first article samples.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow GMP and SQF guidelines.
  • Communicate any safety or quality issues to supervision.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Be able to effectively operate equipment as required.
  • Sets-up machines to ensure that they operate in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Removes/installs molds and part specific tooling.
  • Connects item specific auxiliary equipment. Stores unused items.
  • Prepares material/scrap handling equipment.
  • Sets up item specific in-line inspection equipment.
  • Sets initial process parameters and machine recipes.
  • Introduces correct raw materials for job.
  • Cleans and performs basic preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Verifies machine safety devices and overall safe work environment.
  • Supports process tech in the start up and production of first article samples.
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Promote/maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to and communicate to others all plant Health, Safety and Quality guidelines and GMP.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities & Skills for our SQF Certified Sites:

  • Have a basic understanding of the cGMPs and Good Hygiene Personnel Practices
  • Notify SQF Practitioner and/or Supervisor of any repairs or adjustments that are required.
  • Perform Basic Sanitation Functions
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, and or Regulatory Requirements / standards as prioritized by the Company, HACCP, and SQF.
  • Notify SQF Practitioner/Quality Manager or any other Management personnel of ANY Food Safety or Quality issues.
  • Identify problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the raw material, processes, quality system, or safety system, by performing Production/Quality Checks as assigned.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system. Be able to execute and follow the HOLD SOP.
  • Controls further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Employee follows all Food Fraud/food Defense Policies while on company property.
  • Thorough understanding of all Company policies, including GMP’s and safety policies, HACCP & SQF.
Safety and Cleanliness
  • Adhere to safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Wear company issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as uniforms, gloves, hairnets.

Are You?
  • A High School, Vo-Tech, or equivalent graduate.
  • Understanding of the operating characteristics and capabilities of all manufacturing machinery, equipment, and controls including plastic injection molding machine, cranes, various hand tools, temperature controllers, drill press, pick and place robots.
  • Experience operating a forklift and overhead cranes or ability to be trained and quickly become efficient.
  • Knowledge of plastic resins, mold setup and functions of an injection molding press.
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a manufacturing operator.

  • Basic Math- add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units. Compute rate, ratio, percent.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor.
  • The ability to read, write, and comprehend information provided.

  • Stand for most of the work shift.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch, bend, twist, and only occasionally sit.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Heavier amounts can be moved with assistance of equipment.

Knowledge of and/or previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus!
