Job summary

State of Oregon seeks 15–20 limited-duration Session Committee Assistants to support the 2027 Legislative Session. Positions are full-time, on-site at the State Capitol in Salem, January through June 2027, offering a front-row view of the legislative process in a fast-paced, nonpartisan environment.

You will provide neutral logistical and administrative support to committees staffed by the Legislative Fiscal Office, Legislative Revenue Office, and Legislative Policy and Research Office.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree and 1 year of clerical/document coordination and customer service experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education/experience may substitute for 1 year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or business preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire basic understanding of the legislative process.
  • Provide neutral, nonpartisan logistical and administrative support to committees.
  • Create meeting agendas as directed by committee analysts.
  • Operate meeting recording systems and log meetings.
  • Prepare meeting rooms and facilitate on-site and hybrid participation.
  • Record motions and votes; manage confidential documents.
  • Maintain electronic files per public records law.

**Come serve the Oregon Legislative Assembly as a Nonpartisan Administrative Professional!**The Oregon legislature is seeking 15-20 **limited-duration Session Committee Assistants** to support the 2027 Legislative Session. These roles offer a unique front-row seat to the legislative process and an opportunity to serve in a fast-paced, nonpartisan environment.These are **limited-duration, full-time positions, on-site** at the State Capitol in Salem, Oregon, beginning in January 2027 and ending as committee work closes in June 2027.**What You Will Do**Provide neutral, nonpartisan **logistical and administrative support** to committees staffed by:* Legislative Fiscal Office (LFO)* Legislative Revenue Office (LRO)* Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO)**What You Will Not Do**This position does not craft, shape, or influence legislative policy, or perform research.**Your Key Responsibilities*** ****Acquire and develop a basic understanding of the legislative process***** Deliver excellent customer service to elected officials, staff, stakeholders, and the public* Create meeting agendas as directed by committee analysts* Operate and monitor meeting recording systems, and create accurate meeting logs* Prepare meeting rooms and facilitate public participation in on-site and hybrid meetings* Record motions and votes, and handle confidential documents according to legislative procedure and policies* Create and maintain electronic files in accordance with Oregon public records law* Protect and adhere to the agency’s nonpartisan status and standards**Your Skills and Experience*** Experience prioritizing multiple tasks and working efficiently within tight deadlines* Excellent organizational, customer service, and communication skills with close attention to detail* Ability to stay nonpartisan, maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and act professionally* Experience using MS Teams and other video conferencing tools* Proficiency with Windows 11 (MS Word and Outlook) and an ability to quickly learn internal systems and software**You Are*** Able to work independently and collaboratively with limited direct supervision* Flexible, dependable, and willing to support others* Willing to comply with established rules, policies, and procedures* Respectful and honest in professional relationships; patient and empathetic toward individuals from diverse backgrounds, including peers and members of the public* An Oregon resident *before* starting the position**Working Conditions*** Work is primarily performed in a professional office setting with frequent daily computer and office‐equipment use.* Consistent and reliable attendance is essential to meet operational and statutory deadlines and may require extra hours on evenings, weekends, and holidays during heavy workload periods, especially during legislative session.To view the position description in its entirety, please click here.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*** Associate’s degree, AND* One (1) year of experience preparing and maintaining documents, providing customer/client service, and providing clerical coordination for a project, program, or organizationOR* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
