Job summary

Ulta Beauty is seeking a Services District Educator to lead district training, build an annual education calendar, and coach licensed service providers. You will develop programs on techniques, business acumen, trends, and new services while maintaining a personal clientele.

Travel up to 75% of the time to district stores, influence store leadership, and recruit and retain a diverse services team. You will partner with Experience Managers and District Leaders to drive salon growth and guest

Qualifications

  • Cosmetology or barber license is required.
  • Redken Haircolor Certification preferred (must be completed within six months of hire).
  • 2+ years of training experience, including knowledge of back-bar products and retail recommendations.
  • 2+ years of coaching/leadership experience.
  • Understanding of salon business, color, design, and texture.

Responsibilities

Job description

OVERVIEW

The Services District Educator (SDE) is responsible for developing high‑performing services teams within a district who consistently deliver growth in salon hair sales. The SDE influences and educates all stylists and store leadership to drive performance, builds an annual education calendar covering techniques, business acumen, trends, and new service launches, and maintains a personal clientele as a licensed cosmetologist. This role focuses on technical assessment, recruitment, training, and retention of licensed service providers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance
  • Build the Ulta Beauty brand through exceptional training, technical skills, product knowledge, and behind‑the‑chair experience.
  • Consistently deliver sales growth in hair services and professional hair product sales.
  • Identify training needs in partnership with the services training team and implement programs to train salon professionals on all service behaviors, techniques, and initiatives.
  • Travel to district stores to evaluate and elevate behind‑the‑chair progress and business‑building behaviors for stylists.
  • Elevate store leadership through regular visits and teaching best practices that promote sales growth and a positive guest experience.
  • Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about the ingredients and benefits of these trends.
  • Maintain a limited clientele and service guests approximately eight hours per week.
People
  • Build a team culture that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand, delivering exceptional service and modeling on‑brand behaviors.
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of services professionals for the district, and teach Experience Managers and General Managers how to network and recruit.
  • Evaluate technical and behavioral interviews for stylists, skin care professionals, and arch experts in the district.
  • Serve as a support partner to the Experience Managers, Field Business Leader, and District Manager.
  • Lead change and innovation by helping the team through the change curve.
Process
  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to learn and teach best practices that promote sales growth, service techniques, and product knowledge.
  • Partner with the District Manager and Field Business Leader in assessing talent as it relates to top‑line service sales growth/results.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; always ensure compliance with state board guidelines.
  • Lead the execution of technical and business training strategies, including networking and recruiting strategies within the district.
  • Host or attend all required conference calls and prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings.
  • Manage the district training calendar, all class preparations and communications.
  • Facilitate the services portion of Experience Manager onboarding in partnership with the Field Business Leader.
  • Support new SDE onboarding.
  • Lead, contribute, and participate in Ulta Academy trainings.
  • Attend corporate‑directed events and meetings.
  • Attend brand partner trainings.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Cosmetology or barber license required.
  • Redken Haircolor Certification preferred (must be completed within six months of hire).
Experience
  • 2+ years of training experience, including superior knowledge of all back‑bar products, services, and retail recommendations.
  • 2+ years of coaching/leadership experience.
  • Understanding of, and proficiency with, salon business, color, design, and texture.
Skills
  • Proficient with technology (Microsoft Office, Point of Sale systems, Apple devices).
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong critical reasoning skills and adaptability in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with various associate levels and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong facilitation skills, simplifying information into clear, concise steps across communication vehicles.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Work a flexible, full‑time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight stays.

The pay range for this position is $51,700.00 – $69,900.00 per year, with opportunities to earn services pay pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan and additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. Part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
