# Service Worker II (Utilities)Davenport, FL 33837## OverviewSalary Range$18.04 Hourly## Description# Position Function/Nature of Work:Work is performed under the supervision of the Utilities Superintendent. The Utility Service Worker is involved daily with the operations, installation, maintenance and repair of the City of Davenport’s Water and Sewer Utility systems. The Utility Service Worker will be required to utilize the City’s Work Order program, as well as generate, process, track, and assign work orders from the Utility Superintendent. Required to work in adverse environmental conditions. May be exposed to raw and/or processed sewage.# Essential Duties: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.* Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repairs of City utility systems.* Participates in work concerned with the installation, maintenance and repair of domestic water distribution and/or sanitary sewage collection systems.* Assists the assigned personnel in proper techniques of installation, maintenance and repairs of machinery and appurtenances used in the maintenance of distribution and collection systems.* Participates in the installation and repairs of water mains, hydrants and other activities associated with water system maintenance.* Participates in the installation and repairs of sanitary sewer lines and lift station.* Participates with other Utilities staff in the installation and repairs of water meters as needed.* Contacts property owners in areas where equipment and crews will be working to make necessary arrangements for installation and maintenance activities.* Answers questions regarding information needed or complaints regarding maintenance activities.* Reports actions and results to Utilities Superintendent.* Responds to emergency calls, assigns and assists as needed to correct problems.* Perform other non-essential duties as required.# Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:* Knowledge of and ability to operate various types of equipment required in the installation and maintenance of utility systems such as backhoes, dump trucks, fork lift, low-boy tractor trailer, pumps and various other small equipment used in the maintenance of utility systems.* Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to utility installation and maintenance programs.* Ability to understand and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.* Ability and agility to perform various job duties in all weather conditions including lifting and/or interacting with job related appurtenances and equipment which might weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.* Ability to see colors.* Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination.* Ability to ambulate independently, drive, bend, stoop, sit and stand.* Ability to make independent decisions.* Ability to track and post data or other record keeping information either by written notations and/or entering such information into the City’s work system.* Ability to produce reports and/or review records necessary to ensure that all regulations governing installation and maintenance are fully complied with by assigned staff.# Comments:This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.## Qualifications# Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:* High School Diploma or GED.* Valid driver license from any state must be presented at time of employment.* Must possess a Level “3” Distribution License or obtain within the one (1) year of the probationary period.**Special Requirement:**Must be willing to work overtime and on-call duty, as determined by the City Manager or the Department Director.**Other requirements:*** Must be 18 years of age or older.* Must possess a valid State of Florida drivers’ license.* Must possess an honorable military discharge if applicant has been service connected.* Must be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen.* Must pass a physical examination and drug urinalysis test.* Must not have been convicted of a felony.* Must endure a personal, professional, and moral background investigation to determine honesty, maturity, and dependability.* Must be able to work weekends and nights as needed.
