Job summary

Seneca Dairy Systems, LLC is seeking a Service Technician to travel to dairy farms and provide installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance for a range of dairy barn equipment.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys working hands-on, and can work independently in field environments while communicating effectively with dairy producers and farm staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Ability to read basic mechanical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer dairy farms to perform service and repair work.
  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain dairy barn equipment and related systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical and operational problems and determine repair actions.
  • Read and interpret equipment drawings, manuals, and installation instructions.
  • Provide professional customer service while at customer locations.
  • Maintain accurate service records and communicate status to stakeholders.

Position Summary

Seneca Dairy Systems, LLC, a leading manufacturer of quality dairy barn equipment since 1978, is seeking a Service Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for traveling to dairy farm locations to provide installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and service support for a variety of dairy barn equipment and systems.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys working with their hands, and is comfortable working independently in a field environment. This position will work directly with dairy producers and farm personnel to diagnose equipment issues, complete repairs, and help ensure dairy operations remain safe, efficient, and productive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer dairy farms throughout assigned territories to perform service and repair work.
  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain dairy barn equipment and related systems.
  • Service and support equipment including, but not limited to:
    • Dairy barn gates and penning systems
    • Freestall and stall systems
    • Cow comfort equipment
    • Feed barriers and feeding systems
    • Manure handling and barn equipment
    • Ventilation systems, including fans and related equipment
    • Curtains and curtain systems
    • Doors and overhead doors
    • Dairy barn controls and automation systems
    • Other custom dairy barn equipment manufactured or supplied by Seneca Dairy Systems
  • Diagnose mechanical and operational problems and determine the appropriate repair or corrective action.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to complete service and repair work.
  • Perform equipment adjustments, preventative maintenance, and component replacements.
  • Read and interpret equipment drawings, manuals, schematics, and installation instructions.
  • Identify worn, damaged, or malfunctioning components and communicate repair recommendations to customers and management.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service while working at customer locations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, Service Managers, Project Managers, and other Seneca team members regarding equipment issues and job status.
  • Maintain accurate service records, including work performed, parts used, and additional repairs or follow-up work required.
  • Maintain company-provided tools, equipment, vehicles, and inventory in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures as well as applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and professional work environment at customer locations.
Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to the Supervisor

Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in mechanical service, equipment repair, agricultural equipment, industrial maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools.
  • Basic electrical and/or hydraulic troubleshooting experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with dairy farm equipment or agricultural equipment is highly preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also working effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple service assignments.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to travel regularly to customer locations, including occasional overnight stays.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in various physical positions.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in agricultural environments, including dairy barns, livestock areas, and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions and environments.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other equipment necessary to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to work around livestock, machinery, dust, dirt, noise, and other typical agricultural conditions.
