Position Summary
Watkins-Omaha is looking for a Service Technician/Mechanic to join their team. This position provides preventative and corrective repairs on company automobiles, trucks, forklift, and other vehicles or machinery. Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Consistent and reliable attendance is required. Working hours are typically between hours of 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and repairs company vehicles and equipment as needed, including passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks, forklifts and other designated machinery.
- Performs preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance and repair on hydraulic systems on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Performs all work in accordance with schedules, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.
- As needed: raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle. Removes unit such as engine, transmission or differential. Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear. Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Overhauls or replaces filters, plugs, injectors, turbos, alternators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Rewires ignition system, lights, fuses and instrument panel.
- Adjusts brakes, replaces brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and sells leaks in radiator, minor welding, and cutting torch.
- Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.
- Replaces and adjusts headlights, installs or replaces accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Changes flat tires as needed.
- Maintains and assures cleanliness and neatness of shop area.
- Accurately complete service outline for vehicles, and complete daily forklift inspections.
- Pick up parts and tires when required from vendors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in automotive/diesel technology or related field; and
- 3-6 months previous related experience and/or training, or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License preferred or ability to obtain within reasonable time after hire
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 100 pounds
