Description

Position Summary

The Motorcycle Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining motorcycles in accordance with dealership, manufacturer, and safety standards. This position performs routine maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs while ensuring quality workmanship and guest satisfaction. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering safe, reliable motorcycle repairs and service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on motorcycles according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, ignition, suspension, and drivability concerns using appropriate diagnostic equipment and procedures.
  • Complete repair orders accurately and efficiently while documenting all work performed.
  • Conduct routine maintenance services including oil changes, tire replacement, brake service, battery replacement, and factory-recommended maintenance.
  • Inspect motorcycles and identify additional maintenance or repair needs.
  • Communicate repair recommendations and findings to the Service Advisor in a clear and timely manner.
  • Perform warranty repairs in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Test ride motorcycles when necessary to verify repairs and proper operation.
  • Maintain productivity and efficiency standards established by the dealership.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Properly use and maintain dealership tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems.
  • Attend manufacturer training programs and technical development courses as required.
  • Assist in maintaining service department standards for quality, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
  • Support dealership objectives for guest satisfaction, retention, and service excellence.

Requirements

Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of motorcycle systems, components, and repair procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, repair orders, and service bulletins.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and computerized repair systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and dealership standar
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of motorcycle, powersports, automotive, or related technical training preferred.
  • Previous motorcycle, powersports, or automotive technician experience preferred.
  • Harley-Davidson, OEM manufacturer, or powersports industry experience preferred.
  • Manufacturer certifications are a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Motorcycle endorsement preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move parts, equipment, and motorcycle components weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to push, pull, and maneuver motorcycles safely.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, lifts, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and shop conditions.
Work Environment

Work is performed in a motorcycle dealership service department with regular exposure to moving vehicles, shop equipment, loud noise, chemicals, oils, and varying weather conditions. The position requires adherence to all safety procedures and industry best practices.
