Job summary

Generator Supercenter, Inc. seeks a Generator Service Technician to travel locally to customer residences and perform repair and preventive maintenance on whole home standby generators.

You will read manuals, electrical diagrams, and blueprints, and communicate service details to customers with a focus on safety and quality. The role requires mechanical and electrical knowledge, willingness to work outdoors in varying weather, and a schedule typically Mon-Fri 8 AM–5 PM.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Electrical certification a plus.

  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative.
  • Physically able to perform job duties including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, pulling, grasping, and walking on uneven surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair standby power systems.
  • Maintain and service standby Generac generators.

Job Summary

The Generator Service Technician will consult with the Service Manager to plan their work and travel schedule in the surrounding area. Using our company‑supplied vehicle, you will travel to the customer’s residence to perform repair work and preventative maintenance on the customer’s whole home standby generator. You will regularly use verbal communication and customer service skills to communicate directly with our customers. You will use mechanical and electrical knowledge of generators or small engines to troubleshoot and repair whole home standby generators for our customers. This work will require the ability to read and understand technical manuals, instructions, electrical wiring diagrams, and blueprints. When repairs and preventative maintenance are complete, you will use electronic/written communication skills to update the software system with information regarding services you performed. This position will frequently work around electricity and will require the ability to adhere to all safety practices and requirements.

The work schedule will typically be Mon‑Fri from 8 AM - 5 PM. It is subject to change to support the needs of our customers, for example during times of bad weather/impending storms.

The level of electrical and mechanical repair knowledge, years of direct generator repair experience, and previous experience working directly with customers will all be taken into account when determining what the starting pay level would be within this range.

Main Job Description

Diagnosing and Repairing backup standby power systems and Servicing and Maintaining standby Generac generators.

Responsibilities
  • Technicians will be provided with a daily workload of service/maintenance calls to perform on the Generac generators.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles safely to/from customer’s residence within and surrounding area / job site.
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding arrival, work being performed, issues resolved, etc.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and perform maintenance on the customer’s home generator.
  • Follow technical instruction manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and procedures.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and operate automatic transfer switches.
  • Document services that are performed using an electronic software system.
  • Adhere to all safety practices and requirements.
  • Fill out all paperwork and document maintenance work that was completed.
  • Qualified technicians will perform diagnostics and repairs on backup power systems.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Electrical certification a plus.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Problem‑solving, organization, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative.
  • Must be physically able to perform job duties including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, pulling, grasping, and walking on uneven surfaces.
Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Proper eyesight/vision to be able to perform mechanical repairs safely.
  • Experience with mechanical small engine repair work and with electrical wiring.
  • Must be able to understand technical manuals, electric wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Be physically able to perform the job duties including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, pulling, grasping, and walking on uneven surfaces.
  • The ability to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures.

Compensation: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour
