Job description

Here at Siemens, we take pride in enabling sustainable progress through technology. We do this through empowering customers by combining the real and digital worlds, thereby improving how we live, work, and move today and for the next generation! We know that the only way a business thrives is if our people are thriving. That’s why we always put our people first. Our global, diverse team would be happy to support you and challenge you to grow in new ways. Who knows where our shared journey will take you?

Transform the everyday with us!

The Service Technician serves as a valuable resource for the North American customer by analyzing, diagnosing, and servicing products returned from the field that would otherwise need to travel to their original international factories. A successful service technician is comfortable working independently, is unafraid to discuss challenges with colleagues or the customer, completes jobs quickly, and carefully documents their work. Daily responsibilities for this position extend to Siemens’ own local manufacturing operations, where equipment periodically requires troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. This position reports to the Production Manager for Pneumatic Instrument Manufacturing (PIM). The role is an individual contributor role and does not have any direct reports. Collaboration frequently extends beyond the department, including local technical support and international Siemens factories.

We are looking for a Service Technician. This position will be based in Harleysville, PA.
You’ll make an impact by:
  • Quickly and effectively, receive, analyze, diagnose, document, and repair or otherwise service any one of several different products that are currently being manufactured by Siemens factories outside the US.
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on various electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools and equipment being used by the local manufacturing department.
  • Additional objectives of the position
  • Be an advocate for our customers by monitoring product performance and alerting the international factories if there is reason to suspect that a design or production defect exists that deserves investigation.
  • Respect ISO 9001 requirements and never compromise on quality. Follow procedures, identify risk corrective action, and continually improve.
  • Details of very specific job tasks and functions
  • Any returned product is the property of the customer, so protect it accordingly by respecting its functional limits, applying the proper ESD protocols, and storing it safely.
  • Learn and apply the diagnostic and repair procedures that have been created by the lead factories.
  • Document all findings in the local database or a formal repair report and be prepared to support the RMA coordinator or the Sales team if more information is needed.
  • Delicate situations may require further investigation. Within the limits of the product involved, improvisation is a valuable skill when standard procedures are unsuccessful in identifying a root cause or a fix.
  • Maintain and follow the PIM preventive maintenance schedule. This equipment ranges from heated hydraulic presses to 2-hand tie‑downs to pneumatic test panels.
  • Support the Marketing department upon request with the assembly of demonstration units for shows and sales presentations.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • 5+ years’ experience maintaining and troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic circuits and equipment
  • Clear and respectful written and verbal communicator
  • Basic Windows and Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Travel rare but possible (Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vocational school certifications in electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system repair
  • 2+ years’ experience communicating directly with customers
  • 1+ years’ experience using SAP
  • Familiarity with process control theory
  • Experience in an ISO9001-certified work environment.
