Responsibilities

  • Conduct Vehicle Inspections using the DVI system and share findings with the service advisor.
  • Perform Routine Maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
  • Replace vehicle components with precision following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and other major components.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and coordinate with team to resolve root causes.
  • Record all services, diagnostics, and parts used in repair orders.

Role Objectives

A Service Technician – Journeyman at Gemba Automotive is a skilled professional responsible for advanced diagnostics, repairs, and ensuring vehicles are safe and reliable. This role combines technical expertise, problem-solving, and teamwork to deliver high-quality service and exceptional customer satisfaction. Success in this role comes from precision, efficiency, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct Vehicle Inspections
  • Perform thorough inspections using the Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) system to identify issues or maintenance needs.
  • Record findings clearly and share with the service advisor for customer review.
Perform Routine Maintenance
  • Complete regular vehicle maintenance services like oil changes, tire rotations, brake adjustments, and fluid checks.
  • Follow shop standards and manufacturer guidelines to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Parts Replacement
  • Replace vehicle components, including brakes, tires, batteries, and other basic parts, with precision and care.
  • Ensure replaced parts meet quality standards and are installed correctly.
Advanced Diagnostics and Repairs
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues related to engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and other critical components.
  • Use advanced diagnostic tools and methods to troubleshoot problems and find effective solutions.
  • Perform customer-authorized repairs that align with diagnostic findings, ensuring repairs address the root cause of the issue.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving
  • Identify root causes of vehicle issues and develop strategies to resolve them.
  • Collaborate with team members to solve challenging repair problems and ensure vehicles meet safety and quality standards.
Documentation
  • Record all work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, and parts used, in repair orders.
  • Document recommendations for additional services or future maintenance to keep vehicles in peak condition.
Workplace Maintenance
  • Care for tools and shop equipment by cleaning, organizing, and performing routine maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace to support efficient operations.
Continuing Education
  • Stay up to date with industry knowledge by completing ASE certifications and attending ongoing training.
  • Apply new skills and techniques to improve service quality and efficiency.
Documentation
  • Record all services performed clearly and accurately in repair orders, including time spent and parts used.
  • Document recommendations for future repairs or maintenance based on inspection results.
Workplace Maintenance
  • Care for tools and shop equipment by performing regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure they remain in good working order.
  • Keep workspaces and the shop clean, organized, and safe for all team members.
Collaboration and Learning
  • Work alongside other technicians and the shop foreman to assist with more complex repairs and gain hands‑on experience.
  • Actively participate in mentorship opportunities and on‑the‑job training to build technical knowledge and skills.
Continuing Education
  • Commit to professional development by pursuing certifications such as ASE and staying up to date with industry trends and standards.
