Overview

Service Technician / Portable Sanitation Technician The Route Service Technician/ Portable Sanitation Technician is primarily responsible for operating a company truck and driving to various customer locations to deliver, pick up, maintain, service, or repair portable restrooms, hand sinks, holding tanks, or any asset assigned. This role may be on a daily route, daily pick-up and delivery schedule, a yard/shop assistant, or during a special event. The position is exposed to extreme weather conditions, unpleasant odors, and sights. Hours and physical demands may vary by task. Stallion is a team environment, and the technician may be asked to help in a different department with different tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Operates truck in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Maintains a clean truck inside and out.
  • Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections as set forth by Stallion procedures and D.O.T. guidelines. Major concerns should be reported to the Branch Operations Manager without delay.
  • Follow all Stallion Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and General Standards.
  • Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service-related issues to the dispatch office for action.
  • Performs tasks assigned by the Branch Operations Manager, including but not limited to delivery and pick up of rental equipment, restocking trucks, organizing shop and yard, assisting in a different department, or responding to emergency calls in a timely manner.
  • Provides service for customers\' portable restroom(s) or related assets by following Stallion Service Steps consistently for each service.
  • Keeps work areas in the yard clean and organized; notifies the Branch Manager of hazards.
  • Communicates with Branch Operations Manager about items that can hinder a job (e.g., low inventory, keys, chemicals, supplies).
  • Communicates with office staff regarding items that can hinder a job.
  • Submits all route information and paperwork to the office at the end of each shift.
  • Uses dispatching software for routing, documenting photos, and logging customer concerns.
  • Maintains professional interaction with employees and customers at all times.
  • Provides a distinguishably high level of courteous and expeditious customer service; all contact is documented using routing software on a tablet in real time during the route day.
  • Answers questions for customers and directs them to contact the office for additional information.
  • Provides routing feedback to the office and Dispatcher to improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Uniforms are expected to be worn at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge And Skills
  • Ability to read, operate, and understand an electronic map/GPS/dispatching system using a phone or iPad.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job (prolonged exertions, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing).
  • General knowledge of truck mechanics.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for effective and professional interaction with WSI staff and customers.
  • Ability to pull a trailer is preferred.
  • Waste industry experience is preferred.
Work Environment
  • Works in a variety of environmental conditions, including temperature and weather variations (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind), noise and vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
  • Exposure to human waste is possible.
  • Possible exposure to high-traffic conditions while outside the vehicle.
  • Outdoors and/or driving a GPS-monitored vehicle.
  • Physically able to push or pull independently (unassisted) 50 pounds 25–50 times a day.
  • Physically able to lift independently (unassisted) 50 pounds from the ground to waist height 25–50 times a day.
  • Physically able to get in and out of the cab of a commercial motor vehicle 30–50 times a day.
  • Physically able to lift with assistance (helper) 100 pounds 20–30 times a day.
  • Physically able to bend at the waist and knees 120–150 times per day.
  • Physically able to reach overhead and pull down using 20 pounds of force and secure a tarp.
  • Physically able to climb up to 8 feet to deploy a 25-pound tarp.
  • Physically able to work 8–12 hours in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
Position Qualifications
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Experience: 1 year of previous commercial driving experience preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver license.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening and drug and alcohol tests.
  • Route Service Technicians are responsible for staying up to date on current technology used by Stallion.
  • Understand waste collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices; understanding of Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
  • Hearing within the normal audio range with or without correction; vision within the normal visual range with or without correction.
