Job summary

Modigent is seeking an entry-level Service Retrofit Start Up Technician I to support the startup, commissioning, and basic installations of HVAC systems in commercial settings. Under supervision, you will learn DX split systems and rooftop units, perform basic tasks, and contribute to safe, reliable startup support that drives sustainable performance.

You will train through on-the-job programs, mentorship, and certifications while supporting daily site operations, documentation, and teamwork

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; HVAC certificate a plus (will be supported through company-sponsored programs).
• EPA Section 608 certification preferred or willingness to obtain within first 6–12 months.
• OSHA 10-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).
• 1–3 years in construction, labor, mechanical, facilities maintenance, or related field; strong mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior technicians with basic installations, repairs, and startup activities on DX split systems and rooftop units.
• Support brazing copper lines, component replacement, system charging, and basic functional testing under supervision.
• Document findings, take photos, and complete basic work orders.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and tools; load/unload equipment as needed.

Position Overview

As a Service Retrofit Start Up Technician I, you'll begin your career in commercial HVAC retrofit and system startup by assisting experienced technicians with basic installations, repairs, and commissioning of equipment in office buildings, hospitals, schools, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. Under close supervision, you'll gain hands-on experience with entry-level tasks while learning to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient startup support that contributes to sustainable system performance. Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist senior technicians with basic installations, repairs, and startup activities on DX split systems, above-ceiling unit replacements, rooftop replacements, and related HVAC equipment.
• Support brazing copper lines, component replacement, system charging, and basic functional testing under direct supervision.
• Perform general service/retrofit call support: prepare tools/parts, document findings, take photos, and complete basic work order entries.
• Provide accurate information from each service call to the dispatcher before leaving the job site; document work by completing paperwork and maintaining records.
• Help maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, and tools; load/unload equipment and materials as needed.
• Participate fully in daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
• Actively learn commercial HVAC systems, startup procedures, refrigerant handling, and best practices through on-the-job training, ride-alongs, and assigned coursework.
• Communicate professionally with customers and team members, reporting observations and asking questions to build knowledge.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None (entry-level role focused on learning and assisting journeyman and senior technicians).

Requirements/Qualifications

• Experience: 1–3 years in construction, labor, mechanical, facilities maintenance, or related field; no prior HVAC/startup experience required—strong mechanical aptitude, positive attitude, work ethic, and eagerness to learn essential.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, vocational training, or HVAC certificate a plus (will be supported through company-sponsored programs).
• Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; EPA Section 608 certification (or willingness to obtain within first 6–12 months) preferred. OSHA 10-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).
• Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
• Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, rooftops, mechanical rooms, varying weather); exposure to noise, dust, heights, refrigerants, electrical hazards, and extreme temperatures; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, EPA protocols, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.
