Job summary

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is seeking a Service Planner/Scheduler I for fixed route services to assist with the technical preparation, design, scheduling, analysis and implementation of RIPTA's fixed route and flexible services.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Service Planning and Scheduling, this role supports daily scheduling tasks, attends meetings, and collaborates with the Data Team and unions to ensure effective service changes and public engagement.

Responsibilities

• Assists in technical daily scheduling tasks leading up to the implementation of contractual schedules and service changes
• Works in a team-oriented environment assisting in executing fixed route service plans
• Maintains knowledge of RIPTA Service Guidelines and Planning Principles
• Demonstrates analytical skills and pursues solutions for positive outcomes
• Attends meetings and public hearings related to new service enhancements, adjustments, or discontinued services
• Communicates service adjustments to the RIPTA Marketing Dept. and assists with responses to customer inquiries
• Meets with Service Planning On-call Consultants as needed
• Collaborates with RIPTA Data Team and attends meetings with municipal/state departments

Summary of Position

Under general direction of the Executive Director of Service Planning and Scheduling, the Service Planner/Scheduler I is responsible for assisting the Service Planning Team with technical preparation and development of fixed route services. Provides assistance with the development, design, scheduling, analysis and implementation of RIPTAs Family of Fixed Route and Flexible Services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assists in technical daily scheduling tasks leading up to the implementation of contractual schedules and service changes;
• Works in a team-oriented environment assisting in executing fixed route service plans;
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of Service Guidelines and Service Planning Principles adopted by RIPTA;
• Demonstrates strong analytical skills and engages in pursuing solutions for positive outcomes;
• Attends meetings and public hearings related to new service enhancements service adjustments, and/or discontinued services;
• Communicates service adjustments to the RIPTA Marketing Dept. Assists with responses to customer inquiries and attends public meetings and workshops as needed;
• Meets with Service Plannings On-call Consultants as needed.
• Works as an active member of the Service Review Committee assisting in maintaining communication between Service Planning, the Transportation Department and Representatives from Amalgamated Transit Union Local 618 (ATU 618);
• Works actively with RIPTAs Data Team;
• Attends meetings with municipal and state departments;
• Assists in the daily activities of the Scheduling Department as assigned;
