Job summary

Texas AirSystems is seeking an experienced Mechanical Service Estimator with project management experience to estimate quoted service, PM contracts, and manage basic execution of HVAC projects. The role requires a commercial HVAC background and strong communication with sales, customers, vendors, technicians, and area managers.

The candidate should have 3–5 years in HVAC mechanical service estimation, a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, and proficiency with estimating software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field and minimum 3 years’ experience in construction/HVAC service.
• Typically, 3–5 years’ experience estimating HVAC Mechanical Service.
• Proficiency with a mechanical estimating software a plus.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Strong math and analytical skills.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment submittal data and O&M manuals.
• Graduate from recognized engineering or construction management program is an asset.
• Mix of field and office experience will be helpful.
• Strong PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Estimate mechanical service and preventative maintenance costs with input from sales and operations.
• Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates in a timely manner.
• Organize sub-contractor and vendor quotations and ensure quotes meet contract documents.
• Maintain relationships with sub-contractors and clients.
• Prepare, coordinate, and evaluate subcontractor bid packages.
• Attend pre-bid walk-throughs periodically.
• Clarify scope with sales personnel.
• Define scope and material with service technicians and area service managers.
• Manage project to margin expectations and customer expectations.
• Provide project close and required documentation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Service Estimator, with project management experience. The Estimator/Project Manager will be responsible for estimation of quoted service, preventative maintenance contracts and the basic execution and management of mechanical HVAC projects. The candidate must have experience in a commercial HVAC environment, excellent communication, and teaming skills. Position requires a high level of correspondence with sales team, customers, vendors, technicians, and area service managers.

Responsibilities

• High attention to detail.
• Work with the sales team and operations management to estimate mechanical service and preventative maintenance costs.
• Performs quality estimates for the repair/installation of mechanical equipment and mechanical systems.
• Issue intelligent and perceptive Request for Information (RFIs) when required.
• Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates in a timely manner.
• Organize sub‑contractor and vendor quotations, and ensure quotes meet contract documents.
• Maintain relationships with sub‑contractors and clients.
• Prepares, coordinates, and evaluates subcontractor bid packages.
• Attend pre-bid walk-throughs periodically.
• Work with salespeople to clearly identify scope.
• Participate in turnover meetings and work with the service technicians and area service managers to define scope and material.
• Manage project to margin expectations.
• Manage customer expectations.
• Provide project close and documentation as required.
• Communication to all affected during and at the project conclusion:
• Service Admin/Operations
• Area Service Manager
• Work with service admin/operations to close out project, bill, and collect.

The Required Profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related field and minimum 3 years’ experience working in the construction field in similar and/or related position; or equivalent combination of education and experience in commercial HVAC service.
• Typically, 3-5 years’ experience estimating HVAC Mechanical Service
• Proficiency with a mechanical estimating software a plus
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Strong math and analytical skills.
• Ability to read and interpret equipment submittal data and Operations and Maintenance manuals
• Graduate from recognized engineering or construction management program is an asset.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone, reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
