Job summary

Aurora Innovation is seeking a Service Engineering Technician to develop and validate repair strategies across our hardware teams, troubleshooting Aurora Driver components. You will collaborate with Vehicle Operations, Software, and Hardware to drive diagnostics and vehicle upgrades.

The role requires 3–6 years OEM tech experience, 1–3 years AV/EV exposure, strong diagnostics, and JIRA proficiency. A hands-on, collaborative mindset and rigorous documentation are essential.

Qualifications

  • OEM technician with 3–6 years experience.
  • 1–3 years AV and/or EV experience.
  • Strong diagnostics chops.
  • Clear verbal and written communication across teams (no jerks).
  • Experience with JIRA for issue tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Vehicle Operations, Software, and Hardware on diagnostics, test plans, and vehicle upgrades.
  • Perform maintenance on complex mechanical and electrical components.
  • Document and communicate findings through internal processes
  • Take ownership and escalate data when appropriate
  • Perform quality service and repair, work cross-functionally, and bring a can-do team spirit.
  • Maintain a clean and professional workspace.
  • Capable of balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Mechanical aptitude: assemble or build parts or jigs for prototypes; basic fabrication.
  • Testing procedures: build and setup test rigs for mechanical/electrical tests across teams.
  • Provide feedback and improve workshop standards and processes.

What we are looking for

We’re searching for a Service Engineering Technician to join our team. This role will be focused on developing and validating a variety of complex repair strategies, and collaborating cross-functionally throughout our hardware organization, including our Systems, Reliability, Vehicle Integration and Fleet Operations teams to troubleshoot and upgrade Aurora Driver components. This position requires great attention to detail, excellent cross-team communication, documentation, and a solid diagnostic foundation. Must be comfortable solving difficult challenges, ready to roll up the sleeves to expedite repairs, and have a constant eye for quality. Must have experience using OEM diagnostic tools, methodologies, and a logical troubleshooting approach.

In this role, you will
  • Work closely with Vehicle Operations, Software, and Hardware performing diagnostics, test-plans, and vehicle upgrades.
  • Perform maintenance on complex mechanical and electrical components.
  • Document and communicate findings through internal processes
  • Take ownership and elevate data or findings when appropriate
  • Perform quality service and repair, work cross-functionally, and bring a can-do team spirit.
  • Maintain a clean and professional workspace.
  • Capable of balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Assemble or build parts or jigs for prototypes, proficiency with mechanical fabrication (drill press, saws, hand tools, etc.).
  • Testing procedures: Build and setup test rigs for mechanical and/or electrical tests across multiple teams (Hardware, Systems, Devs...etc.).
  • Provides feedback, creates and implements processes and suggestions to new and/or improved workshop standards, protocols, and processes.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 3- 6 years OEM Technician Experience
  • At least 1-3 years AV and or Electric Vehicle experience
  • Solid diagnostics chops
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic workshop etiquette, provide verbal and writing communication across all teams (No jerks)
  • Prior experience with JIRA
Desirable Qualifications
  • Direct manufacturing and prototyping experience a bonus
  • Prior experience working with autonomous vehicles
  • Experience with CAN bus issues

The base hourly wage range for this position is $35.75 - $51.75 per hour. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
