Job summary

United Disabilities Services in Lancaster, PA runs the UDS Service Dogs program to train and place dogs for mobility disabilities and autism, enhancing independence for clients. Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three years' experience in training/handling dogs.
• Experience with an animal program preferred; helpful to work with people with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Teach simple and complex behaviours to dogs of various ages.
• Provide ongoing instruction to volunteers, dog fosters, and clients receiving service dogs.
• Develop and apply behavior modification plans; grooming and health checks.
• Document daily training records; create training materials and visuals for online classes.
• Conduct virtual meetings and training sessions; assist staff with training techniques.
• Willing to house dogs at home on weekends; evaluate new dogs within one month.

The UDS Service Dogs program trains and places exceptional dogs into careers benefiting people with mobility disabilities and autism.

This is an exciting position for an energetic individual who is eager and available to share their knowledge and expertise.

The Service Dog Trainer will introduce simple and complex behaviors to dogs of various ages, providing frequent instruction to new volunteers, dog fosters, and clients receiving service dogs from the program, developing and applying behaviorial modification plans, grooming and conducting health checks for dogs, documenting daily training records, create training materials and visual aides for online classes, and conducting virtual meetings and training sessions.

When needed, the Service Dog Trainer will assist staff including determining the best techniques and methods of training needed to prepare the dogs for their working life.

You must be willing to house dogs in your home on weekends as needed and newly assigned dogs will need evaluated two weekends within a one-month time frame.

High School Diploma or GED required. A minimum of three years' experience in the training and/or handling of dogs are required. Previous experience assisting with an animal program preferred. Previous experience working with people with disabilities is helpful.

Position is 32 hours per week and does come with basic medical, 401K, floating holidays and wellness days.

Pay: $17.00 per hour
