Blake Thermal Sales & Service, Inc. is seeking an exceedingly ambitious intern to gain skills as a Commercial Industrial Boiler Technician.

You will participate in training on and off the jobsite, observe safety codes, and complete assessments while building customer service skills and representing Blake Thermal professionally. The program offers exposure to boiler systems, safety procedures, and hands-on experience toward the State of Maine Third Class Engineer license, with travel to multiple

Seeking a highly dependable Service Co-Op to join our Blake Thermal team!

You will receive a minimum of 400 hours toward your 3rd Class Stationary Steam Engineer license!

Summary:

For this position, we are seeking an exceedingly ambitious intern to gain skills and training in the role of a Commercial Industrial Boiler Technician. Ideal candidates are eager to gain education and develop practical skills, participate in training on and off the jobsite, observe all safety codes, complete assessments, and carry out as assigned. To be successful as an intern, you must have great customer service skills as well as a drive for high-quality results. Outstanding interns are those who are quick-learners, excellent communicators and take pride in representing themselves, Maine Maritime Academy and Blake Thermal in the most professional way.

Responsibilities:

• Actively participate in a variety of training and educational opportunities with interim assessments.
• Assist within the department, developing new skills and capabilities within the Thermal Energy and Manufacturers Representative industry.
• Observe and adhere to all safety procedures.
• Complete all assessments, presentations, and other required evaluations of an apprentice.
• Keep an open mind when receiving feedback and constructive criticism.
• Communication with manager and colleagues on a day-to-day basis.
• Travel to a variety of jobsites including various types of commercial and industrial facilities, municipal buildings, and powerplants around Maine, New Hampshire and beyond.
• Learn to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Commercial/Industrial Boilers and related thermal equipment.
• Learn steam and hydronic system piping, electrical, controls, and layout.
• Monitor boiler system operations and learn various sequences of operation to meet customer's needs and/or thermal load demands.
• Assist with factory start-up of newly installed thermal systems. Review factory test reports, participate with system setup, evaluation, and inspections.
• Witness ASME pressure vessel repairs, alterations, and associated testing.
• Gain experience and knowledge of the importance of proper water treatment regarding steam system operation and how it relates to system reliability and lifespan.
• Learn proper burner operation on various types of fuels and how to perform combustion analysis.
• Develop critical thinking abilities and trade-related skills, as well as OJT hours needed to obtain the State of Maine Third Class Engineer (Stationary Plant) license.

Requirements:

• Sophomore or Junior standing student, currently attending Maine Maritime Academy in pursuit of a degree in Power Engineering Technology.
• Must maintain a valid Driver's License to drive rental vehicles & be able to pass a DOT physical for driving fleet vehicles as required. A CDL is not required.
• Maintain company provided equipment, tools, and/or fleet vehicle as per company policy.
• Possess a can-do attitude when approaching new and exciting challenges.
• Ability to multitask.
• Attention to detail.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.
• Skilled with computers/systems. Able to read, write and possess excellent verbal communications skills in English, other languages a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Moderate to occasional heavy physical demand with exposure to dust, carbon soot, various fuels, solvents, hot and cold climates, inside and outside exposure when on the job, odors and noise may also be present.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Stand, reach, bend, squat, push, pull and move about the facility or job-site.
• Walk or stand at least 8+ hours per day, often ascends/descends ladders or steps on job-site.
• Able to use hands and able to follow safety guidelines, for both mechanical tools, manual tools, and computer entry.
