Job summary

Smart & Final, part of the Chedraui USA group, is hiring a Service Clerk for the Santee location. You will assist customers, manage carts, check prices, and help load merchandise into vehicles to provide a smooth shopping experience.

Starting at $16.90 per hour, the role requires reading and writing in English, strong customer service, and basic PC skills. Physical duties include lifting up to 60 lb and maintaining store cleanliness and order.

Qualifications

• Read and write English and interact with the public and coworkers.
• Read and comprehend simple labels, pricing codes, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence and present information clearly.
• Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly, 45 pounds frequently, and 60 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Maintain carts and assist customers with purchases and loading into vehicles.
• Check prices on shelves and return mispriced items to correct shelves.
• Keep store entrance and restrooms clean; handle trash and mop as needed.
• Help with parking lot and store maintenance and general upkeep.

The Opportunity

The Service Clerk reports to the Store Manager/Senior Assistant Manager and is responsible for maintaining carts, assisting customers with purchases and helping them with their cars as requested, checking prices on products, returning merchandise to store shelves, parking lot and store maintenance.

Specific Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Collect and organize shopping carts within the store and retrieve carts from the parking lot and surrounding areas.
• Assist customers with the loading of merchandise into shopping carts. Provide assistance with loading their vehicles.
• Check retail prices on shelf for check stand personnel.
• Pull merchandise from the check stand (“go backs”) and return it to the proper shelf. Walk aisles and return any misplaced items to their proper location. Face merchandise on aisles as needed.
• Monitor cleanliness of store entrance: sweep front area inside and outside, pick up and empty trash regularly throughout the day, mop outside walkways and clean entrance/exit doors daily.
• Monitor cleanliness of store throughout the day: sweep, mop, restock restrooms as needed.
