Job summary

Smart & Final in Los Angeles is hiring a Service Clerk to uphold store operations, assist customers at the register and throughout the shopping experience. You will help with loading merchandise, check prices, restock shelves and maintain cart flow in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Read and write English, interact with customers and co-workers.
• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain carts and assist customers with purchases.
• Assist customers loading merchandise into carts and vehicles.
• Check prices on products for checkout staff.
• Return merchandise to proper shelves; manage go-backs and face items.
• Monitor cleanliness of store entrance and restrooms; keep aisles clean and stocked.
• Keep store clean throughout the day: sweep/mop/restroom restocking.

Responsibilities

The Service Clerk reports to the Store Manager/Senior Assistant Manager and is responsible for maintaining carts, assisting customers with purchases, providing assistance to their cars as requested, checking prices on products, returning merchandise to store shelves, parking lot, and store maintenance.

Specific Duties (But Not Limited To)

• Collect and organize shopping carts within the store and retrieve carts from the parking lot and surrounding areas.
• Assist customers with loading of merchandise into shopping carts and provide assistance to and loading of their vehicles.
• Check retail prices on shelf for checkout personnel.
• Pull merchandise from check stand (“go backs”) and return it to the proper shelf. Walk aisles and return any misplaced items to their proper location. Face merchandise on aisles as needed.
• Monitor cleanliness of store entrance: sweep front area inside and outside, pick up and empty trash regularly, mop outside walkways and clean entrance/exit doors daily.
• Maintain store cleanliness throughout the day: sweep, mop, clean and restock restrooms as needed.
